Buying a car from a Saab Car Dealer

First and foremost, what is the asking price for each car? All things being equal, obviously the lower mileage car would be preferable. From whom would you be purchasing (private seller or dealer)? If its a dealer, what sort of guarantee are they providing upon delivery (i.e. if the car is not as described can you send it back?). For what it costs to ship the car, you could consider scheduling a trip to pick up the one thats 500 miles away -- about an 8 hour trip? If the car isn't up to snuff, you've only wasted a weekend rather than thousands of dollars. If it is a clean car, you end up with a much lower mileage car with a longer warranty! Lastly, before embarking on a trip or paying for an inspection, you could hit some of the Saab websites/forums and find someone in the area who is willing to look at the car for you and give impressions (where is the car?). When I was looking for my car, I didnt limit myself by location. I knew I wanted a 2008 Turbo X sedan with manual trans -- not enough around to just look locally. I live in NJ and ended up negotiating with a dealer in Virginia. When we agreed on a price, I went down (about 5 hours away) with a check in my hand and ended up buying. Best of luck!

Re: Looking for 2008 9-3 2.0T Sportcombi manual [alfaracer] by pas914 on Fri Apr 10 19:35:41 PDT 2009

alfaracer - I am in NJ, but most of the cars I found were a considerable distance away. I went ahead and bought the aforementioned Turbo X from a Landrover dealer in Virginia (it was a trade in) - ended up paying $25,995. I think I got a decent deal, but time will tell .. While I was on the way down there to close the deal, I got a call back about another car I had been looking at - a black '08 9-3 Aero SS w/cw and touring pkg with 11,000 miles on it AND a CPO warranty - $18,800! If I hadnt rented a car and started the trip to Virginia, I probably would've taken it and saved the $7k+ As I side note, I read your post (on my blackberry) while driving home in my new (well, used - but new to me) Turbo X - it was reassuring to hear someone else shared my opinion about going for the Turbo X instead of the Aero! The Turbo X is awesome, but deep down I know the Aero made better financial sense.

Re: '08 Lease [Car_man] by asr515 on Tue Aug 26 08:18:30 PDT 2008

Thx for the reply Car_Man. I talked to one of the Saab dealers in my area (NY/NJ metro). He gave me the employee pricing for the 9-7x at $28,255 which is about $9k off the MSRP. Of course, financing rate is 5.19%. Do you think I can do any better with both the finance rate and price? I think I'm looking for a STEAL and this just doesn't seem like one to me. I currently have an '06 9-7x whose lease expires next month. Buy out is $27k (ridiculous). Do you know if GM negotiates the buy out price??? If I could get a heck of deal there, I'll just keep my '06....then again, I'd probably want it for less than $20k! Thanks again. Amy

My husband and I live in the NY/NJ Metro area. Glad I could help. We drove our new car the whole weekend and absolutely love it (and I am not even a car person).

Re: 2007 9-7X 5.3i lease [avalon2000] by avalon2000 on Wed Aug 08 12:47:13 PDT 2007

In my recent experience [and location NYC/NJ Metro area], best place to get your best 9-7X deal is here, the largest Saab dealer: http://www.jmksaab.com/contacts.htm speak with the sales manager and tell him that Mr. Shelly Jacobs recommended you [no, get no fee or commission from them]. Own the 2007 9-7X 5.3 for past month, absolutely terrific vehicle! If driving on highway at a steady 70 to 75 MPH figure on getting only 15 mpg, but takes regular 87 grade gas. Also, spend $30 and replace the std. wipers with the new Michelin Radius [at Walmart] or new Michelin Optimum [at Target], same superior wipers with different names per store, and do spend another $395 for the dealer installed backup radar sensor.
