Buying a car from a Kia Car Dealer
New Borrego 2009 LX 4WD W/floor mats (no other options) for $22.5K. This was after a 3K incentive and a 1.5K loyalty incentive (4.5K). I think this is only about 900 bucks cheaper than the national average according to edmunds and automobilemag.com. According to the later, quite a few have been sold for 1,2 and 3 K less than I paid. My attempts to get a better price locally proved fruitless. I also, got 5K trade-in for a 2005 Chrysler T&C TOURING, with 125000 miles. It was the last Borrego they had left. I think the trade I could have gotten $6K private sale so 5K trade in seemed good to me.
Okay, so I bought a 2006 Sorento demo (never titled) with all of the bells and whistles in May of 2007 with 5200 miles. This is the same as your situation, just a year later.... Sticker: $31355 Rebate to Dealer: - 4500 Net 26855 Price paid w/o TTL 20800 Net discount $6055 Basically I got 22.5% off the sticker price after adjusting for the rebate. Using the same math, a similar deal would put your 2007 at $19557. Be sure to check the internet for the official KIA rebate, it may be higher for the year old model. It all depends how bad they want to get rid of it and how bad you want it.
You hit the nail on the head regarding the snottiness factor of many of the Japanese dealerships. I had a Honda sales guy tell me that he didn't want to sell me a Prelude for MSRP, because his manager was thinking about selling at auction the next day, where they typically sold for $3k over MSRP. My response, go right ahead, and by the way, why do you have a dealership at all, if you can sell cars for $3k over MSRP at auction? I've never been back to a Honda dealer since(had other stupid run ins before that). I've had better luck at Toyota dealerships, but that could be a fluke. Now, when it comes to Mitsubishi dealerships, (I like Mitsubishi cars in general), I've never found a Mitsubishi dealership that didn't literally break the law (seriously) at least once during my visit. I've been to Mitsubishi dealerships in 3 states to buy cars (because I like their cars and I keep thinking they can't all be crooks), I am seriously disappointed everytime I go there. Funny thing is Mitsubishi took almost a half billion hit a few years back due to their bad vehicle loans, partly related to their predatory lending practices. Those lending practices may work for the mafia, but they don't work long term for car sales.
I just bought a 2006 Sorento EX demo for $20,800 w/o TTL. It had 5430 miles on it,it was never titled so it is basically new. It is an EX with the luxury package, anti-lock brakes, rear spoiler, cargo tray, remote start and side step bars. MSRP was $31355. Is this a good deal? I believe that the rebate is $4500 now although I don't see that posted anywhere. The rebate was not part of the deal; I'm assuming that the dealer took it direct.
Man...hate to hear about your bad luck with your Kia fortyfiver. I wonder if the Kia dealership did a background check when they hired that dealer rep. He sounds like he has a few screws loose. I live in Louisville, Ky and bought my Mazda MPV at the Craig and Landreth Mazda which is in Clarksville, IN ...not to far from where you bought your Kia I believe. No problems with our paperwork. You may want to consider having the Kia Store in Louisville(on Preston hwy) service your Sedona....when you get the vehicle back. It sounds like the Kia Store in Clarksville is fairly incompetent all around. Good luck.
