How to get the $6k discount? by connoroh75 on Sat Mar 12 19:10:33 PST 2011

I see dealers in Central Ohio offering UP TO $6000 off a Sorento, and the ads say the buyer must qualify for owner loyalty OR (not BOTH) competitor bonus. I'm considering a V6 ($1500 competitor bonus), and would use the 1.9%, 48 mos., w/ $500 rebate. That would be $2k off msrp. An additional $4k off the msrp seems unlikely, even for the fully-loaded SX, doesn't it? Any thoughts--or better yet, anyone with personal experience--on this $6k discount, and what particular shenanigans are involved to actually get it? Thanks!

2009 KIA RIO pricing by autohead1 on Mon Jun 14 11:00:48 PDT 2010

I just got a new 2009, even though its June of 2010. The window had a decent rebate to 13400....automatic, ABS and spolier...SX When I went to get the 0% loan for 60months, they swapped and said I didn't qualify. So they offered me 1.9%. Then when I asked why the price went up, they said it was "either" the interest or the rebate. Then I had to discuss the rebate cash offered on the KIA website, and the salesman acted as if he wasn't aware of that....gee whiz,,,,he sells KIA's everyday, and didn't know that. huh? I then didn't hit the monthly payment I wanted and tossed down $1,000 more. I was also a bit concerned about how they made the famous Warranty sound not so good. As if it was a maze of requirements to satisfy the Warranty....OR ELSE! or else the Warranty is VOID! the scare tactic or is it real? I don't know. I added extended KIA warranty to have $0 deductible and go the 10yr...though after reading the Kia Warranty manual I am not sure this was a good deal or not. After all the smoke and mirrors... I walked off paying $288 a month at 1.9% for 60 months. $1,000 down. Its a 2009 SX with ABS, brand new. It wasn't a really fun experience. Its been 10yrs since I bought a car and the shell-scam game seems to still be in full force.

2009 Borrego EX 4dr SUV 4WD (3.8L 6cyl 5A) Gresham, OR by pappyquebec68 on Fri Jan 08 10:34:28 PST 2010

I'll keep it nice and simple: Copperhead paint scheme, luxury package, 17" chrome wheels, bluetooth and crossbars. Bought it in mid Nov '09, paid $27,772...seems to be the national average these days. The dealers first offer was 28,900+. We all know you can find waaaaaaaaay better wheels, but i didn't plan on getting any ever, so i just stuck with the ones that were already there, makes it look just a bit better. Bluetooth seemed cheesy at first, but new laws in OR make it necessary, so turned out to be nice. I still get a lot of crap at work for owning a KIA, especially since Borrego translates to "yearling lamb" or "sheep", but that sure beats getting into a $40,000 "big name" SUV that has the same features.

Hi Kasikin, I am located in Portland, OR. May I ask what the dealers in your area are asking for an LX 4 cylinder? I have one dealer here getting down to the low $16K. Thanks.

It's great to hear you're pleased with your Rondo-except for "lousy mileage" tsm280z. Unfortunately, based on your experience the care I've been taking to follow the break-in recommendations may not necessarily prove to be beneficial. Oh well-I'll just have to wait and see. I've also read your posts concerning window fogging issues and experienced similar issues last weekend while having six passengers in the car while driving back from dinner on a cold (high-30's deg. F) night in steady rain. In my case I found that after selecting one of the first two (ie farthest clockwise) vent positions seemed to take care of the fogging issues-at least for the most part. I believe the car's air conditioner compressor is designed to engage automatically when one of the first few defog/defrost vent positions are selected when outside temperatures are above freezing. Unfortunately, my '05 Mazda3's HVAC system is designed so that the a/c compressor will run automatically whenever one of the defrost OR FLOOR vent positions are selected. Imo having the a/c run when all you want to do is warm your toes seems asinine. It seems Mazda chose to engineer their cars this way because when the floor vent position is selected some air is still directed toward the windshield. Hence, the decision to produce air dried by the a/c for superior defogging characteristics. Personally, I'd prefer to be allowed the option to turn the a/c on or off as needed via the button. My guess is a fear of product liability lawsuits should drivers be involved in accidents who claim their car's wouldn't defog the windows effectively may be behind some of the auto a/c designs. One suggestion I would make for hopefully improving your problem would be to clean the inside glass very carefully, followed by the use of an anti-fog product or wipe. In my experience the plastic surfaces and other materials in new cars tends to produce a gas (that "new car smell") which can show up as a film on the windows-and these films can encourage fogging issues. I've also found that the application of vinyl protectants (like Armor-All) can similarly lead to a buildup of a film inside the windows-particularly after the car's surfaces have been heated by being parked in the sun. I'm fairly sure that Rain-X and companies which produce similar products offer disposable wipes and cleaners designed to combat windshield fogging issues. Hope this helps! Btw, 25 years ago I used to own a '74 260z. Still miss that car sometimes.
