Buying a car from a Volkswagen Car Dealer
Pandx, I'm in the same situation as you. I've found a Candy White Passat Wagon (MSRP $29,730 according to VW.COM) but the dealer here in California wants: $28K + TT&L with 60 months 0% APR ($518/mo out the door price) OR $26K + TT&L with 60 months 4.9% APR Looks like he's trying to charge me the price of the wagon WITH navigation while this one does NOT have it. Thoughts? Thank you!
So it's down to this: 4WD Wolfsburg with Sunroof 10K/year 39 mos. $375 OOP $416/month (incl tax) OR 4WD Wolfsburg with Sunroof and NAV 10K/year 39 mos. $375 OOP $445/month (incl tax) I'm not married to the nav, but I would love the backup camera. Is it crazy to spend an extra 1K (over the life of the lease) to get these features? Is that a good price?
I just got another quote for an SE with nav and sunroof for $515 down and 499+ tax for 39 mo. with 15k. total paid over 39 mo. is 19,500 which is too much, no?
OK - got an offer for a 2010 Tiguan Wolfsberg w/ 18" Davenports; Nav Kit and Sun Roof Kit. Dealer wants $3,000 down with $441+tax for 39 mos. Any comments would be appreciated. Should I do it?!? It comes out to about $22,000 in total payments which seems KRAZY - Sell price is $33,614.00
OK...I just rechecked the numbers and I was incorrect....57% is correct for only 10k miles. Now, I can tell you this...as you are in CA (as am I), I would expect you to be able to get a deal for maybe 20 bucks less or so than the one my sister received. Here are the numbers that she got for a Jetta SE with the Mat Package and 12k miles per year.....keep in mind that these numbers are approx but within a couple bucks so they are accurate enough to calculate. Also, as I'm calculating the numbers based on her lease docs it looks like they used some kind of tax break and did not factor the added tax into the cap cost OR the monthly payment....but in doing so, in order to arrive at the monthly payment that they did the dealer had to pad the money factor. That being said....being in CA (as am I), I would push for the same numbers, which is invoice or better, and still try to get the buy rate for the money factor. Cap cost: 21061 Gross Cap cost w/acquisition fee and $15 flat tax fee: 21651 MSRP: 22460 Residual: 56% : 12549.60 Money Factor: Looks to be about .1000 for her deal, but the buy rate should be .00097 (but that was the November rate so Dec could be different) Now...they figured on having the doc fee, title, etc. plus the 1st month payment due up front, which would have been about $605. My sister only paid $320 upfront because VW paid the 1st months payment of $285 as part of the sign and drive deal. So, based on what you said in your post, if you can get the same numbers and pay the acquisition and license fees upfront, you should have a monthly payment of close to $250/month (including tax)...based on 10k miles a year. I calculated that by using the cap cost my sister got, plus the money factor and residual you were quoted....and VW should STILL pay your first month. If you were to roll the acquisition and license fees into the lease then your payment would be more like $280/month (including tax). I hope this all helps you. And please let me know what you get because I myself will probably be getting a Jetta SE in the next few weeks, but since I may be moving to Chicago in January I'm waiting to see where I'll be before I choose get one either here in CA or IL.
