Sorry I didn't respond right away - I've been away on business. The dealer was Griffin/Hub Chrysler, Menomonee Falls, WI. The price I gave did not include tax/title, etc. They've been a Dodge & Mitsubishi dealer forever, but just recently started selling Chrysler & Jeep as well. BTW - I actually found slightly better deals at Gandrud Chrysler in Green Bay, WI (a "no haggle" dealership), and at Braeger Chrysler in Milwaukee (through Sam's club). The difference was only about $150, so I decided to stick with the local dealership that I've been going to for service, etc.

I am interested in buying PT Cruiser 07, and I am searching for the reasonable price that I need to pay. Actually, I got a quote from a dealer, and I am wondering if this price is reasonable. Would you please help me to figure out that this price is okay? I am looking for PT Cruiser Basic with ABS and Auto. No additional options are needed. The dealer suggested this price following: " I have found a new 07' PT in a color called Opal Metallic Clear Coat. I also found the same vehicle in Marine Blue Pearl (almost like an oceanic blue), as well as one in Inferno Red Pearl Coat. Chrysler charges $150 extra for both the opal and red colors. The marine blue has no extra charge. I ran numbers on the opal color, and here is what the General Manager has authorized me to offer you: MSRP (sticker price), is $17,535. Our sale price to you including Chrysler rebates, is $14,700!" Is this price okay? (I am in Madison, WI.)

If there were $6k in rebates, likely there was less other dealer discount off of MSRP. In June I got $4,000 rebate +$750 owner loyalty rebate plus dealer discount of about $2350, for a total of about $7100 off MSRP on a Grand Caravan SE. Could I have done the same deal in November 2005 for a 2006 model? Perhaps. Whether I buy at the beginning or end of the model year matters little to me, as we normally keep our vehicles ten years or more, so the remaining value of a ten year old vehicle is not dependent on model year, more dependent on the condition at that point.

The 07's might be hitting the lots for the first time by now. :) Downside is the longer you wait to buy a leftover 06, the less choices you have. Right now I saw an ad for an Dodge Grand Caravan SXT for $7200 off MSRP, which is just about what I received in discounting in June for a 2006 GC SE, which MSRP'd for about $1-2K less than the SXT. I would expect long wheel base T&C's to be discounted about the same. Pricing could get even better the longer you wait, and if you are not fussy about color and exact equipment packages, one should do well. End of model year is almost always a good bargain hunters time to shop.
