Re: XLE with roof rack cross bars, mate, and cargo net in TX [wtl] by loucapri on Tue May 03 08:16:14 PDT 2011

The highest price around is in the NW, One thing you can try is NOT to include roof rack cross bars, mate and cargo net. Just ask for a BASED XLE. Often time, those items are there already (an dealer will sell the car with it all together). BUT if you keep telling the dealer you want those options, then they have a reason to add those to the price.

Re: How accurated is Edmunds TMV? [magoomba92] by loucapri on Mon May 02 08:46:06 PDT 2011

you are not alone. Here is what I found out. For new car, MSRP is 99% fixed across nation. So when we shop, we try to look at invoice, rebate... so pretty much most people will able to get into a new car at the same price range (without tax, other fee). For used car, price can be set to whatever the dealer want to set (often they set it high and expect to lower to get the deal). If you read auto articles, they keep saying "even a new car, as soon as you drive off the lot, it lost value", well, just like you mentioned, we didn't see value dropped. In fact, if you do a search, even KBB suggested most car lost MORE than 50% value over 5 yrs. And yet, if you use KBB to get pricing, good luck finding a 5 yrs car has less then 50% value (especially for Japanese SUV or Minivan). My suggestion is to skip the 1-3 yrs old used car because it didn't provide enough value. Buy new only cost a few thousand dollars more. Don't waste money buying "expensive" used car. Buy used only if you see GOOD value :) You really not going to save much by buying a couple years old used car especially if you plan to keep your car for long.

Re: truecar.com question [shoppingforcar] by loucapri on Tue Mar 15 10:10:00 PDT 2011

I noticed the same thing as well. It seems to me a few buyers from this forum got their van for $500-$1500 less then the truecar.com price (depends on trim/option) wonder how did they do that. Dealer in my area even asked more then what truecar.com shows, way too much :(

Re: ACURA MDX TEch for 43k vs. Highlander Ltd AWD for 37 [optimist2] by loucapri on Mon Feb 14 08:40:46 PST 2011

that $6K gives you HID, memory seat (I believe) and nicer finish from the inside +1 class higher on brand (acura vs toyota). If you plan on selling the car in a few years, go with HL. Used 08 MDX priced very close to 08 HL limited. I once looked at 2011 HL SE but now after seeing my friend's MDX (09) and did some price search, it seems I can get a couple years old MDX (Yes, I know it's not NEW) with better features for less $ :)

Re: warning on purchase from lake city toyota dealership at Seattle, WA [hjackh] by loucapri on Thu Feb 10 08:20:14 PST 2011

so did you end up getting your car in Lake City? or get back your deposit and went somewhere? I too in the Seattle area and if you can share some buying suggestion, it will be great. What model and price did you get during your research?
