Buying a car from a Volvo Car Dealer
The lease (thru US Bank) on my 2007 XC70 expires on 10/31/10. Car is "clean" except tires should probably be replaced within the next 3-6 months. 34,500 miles. Option to purchase vehicle is $15,203 + tax. Interest rate to purchase car thru US Bank is 5.1% (3.66% thru my own bank). Understand I can also purchase the car thru the dealership (Volvo Oak Park IL) and get an extended warranty, etc. but I don't have those numbers yet. Have leased all of my cars over the last 20+years. This is the first time I'm considering exercising the buy option and keeping it. Also wondering if I should buy it and then trade it in on something else... Or just return it ($395 return fee) and lease again.... Goal is to keep my monthly payment as low as possible....Have been paying $453/month (48 mo lease) and would like to lower that amount. Any advice would be greatly appreciated....venturing into unknown territory here and it's all pretty overwhelming. THanks.
Oh yeah - may three or small fords. But on the last two years we beat the market or shall we say Volvo lost on the suv. Car is worth about $22-23K on trade and the residual is $38K. If you purshased the car on a 60 loan you spent with payments and down payment approx. $29k over 24 months and you still owe $27K for a car that is worth 24K max. At that time the 2007 lease made sense but we probably did not know that at that time.
The list of the car was about $53K and that was with the new pricing. This was with $0 down on a V8 AWD R. - they may due less months but with a residual of 35% on 36 months and a MF well over 6% - you are right at $970+
Just got a quote on a 09 XC 90 AWD V8 R 36 Months - will not due shorter 120000 miles - will not due less miles Residual - 35% Money Factor - 0.00257 (6.2%) With the "X" plan the monthly came to $972 This is with $9200 worth of incentives. My current lease is on a 07 AWD V8 Sport with monthly of $547 and $578 with taxes - nothing down except first month - 24 month lease and 10500 miles per year. Just proves that the bottom has fallen out of the SUV lease market. My buyout of the lease is $37K but the car is on worth $25K on the market - Volvo just lost $12K.
We just got back from doing the European Delivery. It's not a trick.I priced the same C30 (1.0,auto,sunroof,Titanium Gray, cruise, weather pkg, cargo cover, computer,I think that covers it) on Edmunds at $27,835 for the 2008. We paid $25,310 for our '07,and got open jaw tickets (Copenhagen/Stockholm, the wife hates connections) and a night at the Radisson in Goteborg included. The car is really nice - comfy enough for long trips but small enough for her to consider. Zippy, too. The people at the Delivery Center were REALLY nice - they even called to check on our B&B the second night in Goteborg, and found us a different place when the first informed us they had lost our reservation. The Volvo FDC provided pickup and taxis as needed. Scandinavia is a greatplace to tour - most locals speak English and no one ges snobby about the language illiterate Americans. Roads in Norway can be breathtaking, and are often single lane. If you know how to downshift, the mountains are no problem. And the scenery definitely makes it worthwhile. There was enough culture and history to satiate my teacher wife. Advice: Credit cards don't work the same as here. You're often asked for a pin. If you plan to go to the Volvo Museum, google map it ahead of time. Get the luggage cover to keep the sun (and prying eyes, though we never felt unsafe anywhere) off your stuff. And don't pick up the car the sameday you fly in. (jetlag) Most metro areas have very good transportation and "cards" that make it easy, even fun, to go carless. Have your dealer check for "in stock" cars - you might get an even better price. In short, we did it and we loved it.
