Used 2008 Legacy 2.5 GT by vishayan on Fri Feb 04 10:14:45 PST 2011

I just bought a used 2008 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT with ~36,500 miles on it and one previous owner. I found the car through autotrader at a dealership in Chicago Wilkins Hyundai and Mazda. Originally the dealer wanted 19,991$ (not including tax which would be 6% in MI since I am from Michigan), my friend and I were able to get him down to 18,775$. The specs on the car I bought are the following: - Popular group 2 config, which I think included the auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, heated driver and passenger seats. - Windshield wiper de-icer and heated side view mirrors - Extra speakers and subwoofer under the driver seat - Power moonroof - All weather floormats - XM satellite radio - Trunk spoiler - 5 speed manual transmission with momo sport shift knob I wasn't sure what else was an extra on this car, essentially I just got lost in all of the buttons and features this car has. An interesting circumstance though was that I bought it last weekend and was pretty much in the perfect position to test it during the "snowpocalypse" which was a huge snowstorm covering 3/4 of the US Feb 3-Feb 4th 2011. Coming from a rear-wheel drive car, the Subaru needless to say exceeded my expectations, while my neighbors were stuck in their parking spots next to me I put the Legacy into reverse without shoveling any snow out and drove through the snow drift behind me and proceeded to plow a channel out to the main road. I will of course refrain from driving in deep snow on a regular basis but I could not resist the opportunity to see for myself why my friend who introduced me to Subaru in the first place was going on about. Anyway though the car isn't perfect, there are a few things I noticed although it could just be me getting used to the car as well and iron out in the future. - Rear driver side passenger door lock froze shut, so I could not unlock it manually or with the key fob. Eventually after driving around a bit it thawed out. - Slight rattling noise from I believe the glovebox - I find it sometimes a bit hard to get into reverse gear; but perhaps this will work out once I get more familiar with the car. - The interior trim near the gearshift seems to be a little loose as I can press on it and it will move up and down. - The frameless windows of the 2008 model make for more wind noise Otherwise I was glad to confirm that all of the electrics I checked at the dealership were indeed continuing to work.

Is this a good lease offer? by jcc39 on Mon Jan 03 21:48:02 PST 2011

I would like to get some advice on the offer got from my local Subaru dealership in Pennsylvania today on 1/03. It is a 2011 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Premium with Value Package and Tom Tom Nav. The MSRP on the car is $22,104. Here are the basic details 36mo 10k mi/yr $3250 down including tax, tags, acquisition fees, first mo payment etc $208/mo I did ask for a break down sheet with all the costs broken out and the money factors, but they said their printer couldn't print out the page with all the details on it so that is a big red flag. Either way it sounds like a pretty good deal compared to other offers I have seen. So far I only put down a $500 deposit to hold the car, so I'm not locked in. Should I try renegotiating or go to another dealer or just take this deal? I appreciate any advice.

Re: Forester 2010 lease vs. 2011 [jjlew] by steine13 on Thu Oct 21 17:33:35 PDT 2010

As a "leasing veteran" -- iow, leasing seems to work for you -- I don't think you need to care too much about residuals. If you do turn it in, I'd say it doesn't matter, and the only significant number is the total outlay -- $$ down + sum of the payments. It definitely pays to compare '10s and '11s, though.
