Re: Good deals in DC Area [0774] by postnobills on Mon May 09 09:13:49 PDT 2011

0774- I don't know why you find this hard to believe. Go to overstock or any other zag site. Put in zip code 22202 (Arlington VA) and you will find two different dealers in the Maryland suburbs, one who will sell a GLS for $450 under invoice and another who is $400 under. And in MD, by law, dealers are capped at $100 maximum for dealer documentation and other fees. Three weeks ago when I bought my car the zag discount was $900 under invoice, so even here in the DC area demand is catching up with supply, and prices are creeping up. I live in the DC area and had no trouble beating the zag price. Just walked into my closest dealer who was a zag participant, made them an offer a bit under the zag price, told them they could sell me the car at that price without my printing off the zag certificate, which meant they had no commission to pay to zag, or I'd go home and print off the certificate, in which case they'd have to pay their zag commission. They accepted my offer in less than 60 seconds, which tells me that the extra discount they gave me was less than the commission they'd have to pay zag. To be honest, it was one of the easiest new car buying experiences I've had in 35 years of car buying!

Re: sonata SE /PA NJ area [zoom08] by alookman on Mon Apr 25 09:11:47 PDT 2011

Target selling price for SE without options should be 21k and even 20.5k is doable. BTW factory to dealer incentives that are being kept hush by dealers are in range of 2k-2500 range, and varies each month. Use Amex car buying service or Costco's to get good a deal. Seems like MD dealers offer best deals on any brand using Amex so use the zip codes in MD, DC or VA area. Watch out for document fee, it should be no more than 150 but often runs 399 plus and I would not pay that much and its often negotiable. Best time to buy is the last few days of month, especially a slow month!

Re: Good deals in DC Area [embeedee] by postnobills on Tue Apr 19 16:44:51 PDT 2011

Hi embeedee (and rdillier), I paid $16,965 plus tax, title and "doc fees" of $389. This was for the GLS automatic with preferred, floormats and ipod cable. It was actually a bit less than I was expecting based on my prior research. The iPod cable was not part of the car as packaged, so I offered $1000 under invoice plus the free ipod cable. They showed me the invoice of $17,965. As far as I can tell it did not include any regional advertising fee, which is why my deal seems better than the information from truecar.com. The dealer holdback and the current mfr. to dealer incentive totals a little over $1000, so I figure they made about $400 gross profit on this sale, plus any additional volume incentives they earn from the mfr. Seemed like a good deal to me! I bought it at Fairfax Hyundai. Like most dealers in VA, they charge exorbitant doc fees (compared to MD with its $100 maximum by law), but even factoring this into account they were still a few hundred $ cheaper all-in than any other area dealer, including Fitzgerald. Also, they threw in free oil changes and state inspections for as long as I own the car. Not only is Fairfax closer to my home than Fitz or the other MD dealers, but I was lucky enough to have a knowledgeable salesman and a totally low-key finance manager. I had visited Fitzgerald a few months ago when I started looking at this car and was shocked by how poor the salesman there was (arrogance plus stupidity is a bad combination!!); I swear I knew more about the car than he did after I had invested just a couple of hours noodling around online.

Re: 2011 Elantra GLS with preffered equipment pkg [xfast] by sarah2175 on Sun Apr 10 13:12:21 PDT 2011

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a red allure, preferred package for just a little over $18K. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this car. I had bought a 2010 Elantra in October, the transmission went, so I was never fully comfortable with the car after that. I was able to work out a sweet deal at the same dealership in Williamsburg, VA. I can't stop driving my car! :)

Just bought a 2011 Touring in Chester, VA by bear7 on Wed Apr 06 16:00:49 PDT 2011

Just bought our first Hyundai ever. I researched and test drove cars for months. The 2011 Touring wasn't even in the running until I read some good reviews. We got the GLS, auto with PEP #2, iPod cable and mats for 16,260 incl 500 rebate and 720 delivery. This was more than 2,000 off MSRP and didn't require any annoying "special groups" rebates such as loyalty, military, student, etc. We used Truecar.com and worked great. No BS, no kabuki dance sales routine at the dealership. All email and phone. We love the car (overall 34-35 MPG, very easy driving), loads of features and best warranty. I would go to Gateway Hyundai again and will use Truecar.com. :D
