Buying a car from a Scion Car Dealer
Scion only sells the accessories through dealers. Accessories that are difficult or time-consuming to install are usually installed in port facilities before the car reaches the dealer. Examples of these might be TRD clutch, shifter, cruise control, spoiler, fog lights. The dealers do floor mats, wheel covers, radios. I had my dealer put in the basic radio and the wheel covers. Then I got this stuff online except for the shocks, and I installed it all except for the sunroof, leather seat covers and cruise control: Rear shocks, pair SensaTrac #5987 NAPA 76 Cabin air filter OEM Precision 28 Console arm rest Zeta Precision 204 Exhaust tip Valor NewScion Carson 50 Floor mats OEM ScionWarehouse 55 Fog lights OEM ScionWarehouse 219 R bumper applique OEM ScionWarehouse 45 Rubber floor mats Classic W31-W20 F&R WeatherTech 112 Cargo mat OEM ScionWarehouse 45 Grille OEM, black Greentree Toyota 122 Body side molding Black rubber Custom Auto Trim 115 Black ground effects Bedliner spray Line-X of Louisville 350 Rear sway bar TRD Sparks Toyota 155 Strut bar DC Sports CS-2 CSB1401 Ptuning 92 Dashboard cover Suede, black Calif Car Cover 45 Sunroof Webasto Inbuilt 640 Auto Sunroof Co. 1272 Leather seats Katzskins, black Auto Sunroof Co. 1272 Seat cover Superfit single Sheepskin Outlet 72 Wood dash Veneerz - basic kit Veneerz.com 71 Cruise control Rostra AllScion 195 Bra, 2-pc carb fiber Colgan Colgan 200 ScanGuageII Linear Logic Linear Logic 180 (The prices include shipping. i bought mine from galaxy toyota/scion in eatontown nj and had a good experience overall. the first day i went in someone came to me while i was looking around (: ( at toyotas cuz they had no scions) and asked if i needed help, which i said i did. even when i told the dealer i was 19 and didn't have much of a credit history, but wanted to buy a scion, he was incredibly helpful. he explained pure pricing to me like this- scion sets a "menu' of prices and the dealers have to charge that. he also told me that for any other information could be garnered from the web site. he did a quick glimpse at my credit report and told me i would be able to finance a purchase without a co-signer. i wanted an xb but there was a 12 week wait, and the dealer told me that they would have 2 auto xas and 2 auto tcs in next week. i decided on the xa and then told him i wanted a day to think about everything, to which he was greatly receptive. i didn't have to commit to anything, sign anything, or pay for anything (even the credit check.) i called the next morning and told him that i changed my mind, i wanted to go with the tc in silver, and that i would be in at 5 with a down payment. so i got there, he went over the price with me, and it actually came out to be almost exactly what was on the website. i arugued that i really wanted the tc but the xa was much more affordable (based on the projected credit check) and i basically asked him if he could adjust the apr on the tc so that the total and payments would be equal to the xa. so he did my official credit check (which added $15 to the total, which isn't too bad for a credit check) and did it. i also refused to buy the car when i read that the deposit (in my case $2000) isn't refundable, after which he modified the contract and wrote refundable and initialed it. so i was very happy and satisified. then the only not so kosher thing occured... after i signed everything the time frame changed to "we expect it in next week, but it would be in by the end of october (roughly 3 weeks) at the latest." i forgot to mention as well- he didn't really ask me if i wanted any of the options or accesories. which i didn't plan on getting, but still, if he'd given me totals with and without i might have got some. and that kind of pissed me off. but we'll see what happens. overall it was a really easy and happy experience and i would def. buy another car from them when the time comes. now i just have to get the car and spend the next, oh, 5 or 6 years paying for it lol. btw- brand new 2006 tc, auto, standard features, classic metallic silver. i'll post updates when i have them!
that's good to know...... i am not considering I-10 toyota due to the fact that their lot is so tiny. i have been at Toyota of desert before (their lot is huge), i bought a toyota there in 1991. however i seem to be having trouble getting them to respond to my emails. i'm suppose to go and buy in about 9 days, it will be the first (and possibly the last) time that i can pay in cash. i hope they have some dark blue ones with auto and i'll have to spring for a armrest too. by the way, Americas Tire co has some really nice alloy wheels for @ $80 each= $320+tax. way cheaper than scions alloys which are $665! thanks, any further info would be appreciated. oh, and there's several distributors on ebay who have billet grilles for @ $70 (shipping included) i think i'll order one!
Hey Tundradude, You really need that armrest. I am enjoying the heck out of mine. I've looked at all the other armrests out there and the Zeta still is the best. I just turned 12,000 on my XB and avg. 34 mpg. The last experiment with the car was to fill it up to the neck and just drive as far as I could before filling up. When I finally pulled in for gas I had logged 368.3 miles and re-filled 11.1 gal. of gas. I left that whole .8 gal in the tank as a safety net. This shows up to 33.1 mpg cruising around the Wash., DC area at 75 mph with the A/C on to combat the 95 degree heat. I laugh at my co-workers that complain about their Tahoe's and Explorers 11 mpg and the $80 price tag to fill them up. I've performed all of my own oil changes with Castrol 5W-30 and Mobil 1 filters. The 1 gripe that I do have is that the Scion floor mat on the driver's side has worn out. Right under the gas pedal it just wore out. I suspect cheap carpet process and will try to get Leesburg Scion to ante up for a new mat. Other that that I'm very pleased with the overall performance of the Box.
I test drove an '05 xB in November at John Elway Toyota in Centennial (Denver) CO. I was looking for a White/ 5 speed. The salesman tried to push me into a Camo/ 5 speed or a Black Cherry/ Auto. When I offered to take one of those at a lower price he informed me of the NO HAGGLE pricing. I finally decided to have them find a White/ 5 speed for me. "No problem! We'll have it in a couple days!" It was 30 days before I planned to take delivery The salesman knew two weeks in advance what day I was going to pick it up and he assured me it would be ready. "30 minutes for paperwork and you'll be out of here." On delivery day, I waited 4 hours for wheel covers, stereo and an alarm system. The 17" wheels and lowering springs still had not arrived. They wanted me to bring it back to have them installed. I live 250 miles away. They ended up paying another dealer (Dodge City Toyota) to install the springs for me and I bought my own wheels. That only happened after I got Scion Customer Service involved. Those guys were great! Elway's use of high pressure tactics will stop me from buying from them again. Next time I'll go to Dodge City. Anyone else have these kinds of problems? I paid 14100 for the xb, 945 for the springs and alarm. They paid 220 to Dodge City Toyota for installing the springs. The price seems reasonable. I've seen used '04's for the same money. timcsim7 "05 Polar White 5 speed Toyota Alarm 18" Diable X-Calibers Sprint Suspension springs
