In NE Florida, I paid 38,850 base price almost a year ago for my 2010 black/black 6MT w/19in wheels. Couldn't get them any lower. Absolutely LOVE the car. Gone almost 13,000 miles and still drives like day 1. Only problem I had so far was a very annoying sunroof rattle that started about 6 mos into ownership. The dealer ended up fixing it without issue and it hasn't returned so far. Evidently it was associated with a certain VIN range.
OK- Found incentives for JAN 1.9% upto 36mo 2.9% upto 60mo 2000$ dealer cash- For TL TECH model only. It could be regional too (I checked for NE region). Seems good deal to me...Now if I can find mayan bronze color in this region then I'm all up for buying this machine p.s: dealer cash & APR "can" be combined
When I bought a Mazda6 a a few years ago they were actually going for about $1500-2000 less in Chicago area than in the NE area of US. A poster who works for a Mazda dealer in the NE and I had seveal conversations about this. Used car prices were similar differences. I told him we should go in business and haul a dozen to the NE and sell them and make a cool grand on each. Wishful thinking but there are big differences sometimes on different cars. Can't really put my finger on what causes it as it sometimes is the opposite situation with different cars at different times. Strange but keeps things interesting.

The game changes when dealers are keeping unreasonably high markups assuming that there is demand, and buyers are willing to purchase 2009 models with the fear that they may have to pay full price for 2010 models. This is all I hear when I talk to these dealers - "You better buy before 2010 mdx come in. Then you will have to pay full price" With price reductions for 2010 mdx, it might be better to wait for 2010 mdx than pay high dealer markups for 2009 mdx. In a macro sense, to spur the demand, Acura will keep the incentives going. Their production lines are still running at 50% capacity now - an unacceptably low number that they cannot maintain forever.
We just took delivery of the base mdx from our dealer in the Boston area. There's not a ton of background - but will offer the following - Final price was $35811 (incl destination) not including tax, title, licensing. This deal was secured after reaching out to 6 different local dealers within a 40 mile radius. So yes, the NE has a lot of competition, as has been mentioned prior - and I'm certain this deal of $2250 below invoice was a direct result. Inventory was scarce - of the 6 that were approached, 2 had no inventory of mdx bases while the remaining four had 2-3 base MDX's each. Prices ranged from our low up to $37110 (all incl destination). Given the low inventory and demand - dealers are rightfully protecting their profit margins - why sell a vehicle for thousands less than invoice if no one else will... In this case, we relied on competition - we advised each that we were willing to pay 38k flat OTD and the first dealer who got there would have a sale that day.... this was calculated as invoice plus destination ($38062) minus the $2k incentive (as this was before 9/8) minus the 2% holdback plus tax (6.25%) and $450 for all dealer/registry fees. That was IMO a starting pt for negotiations - as it was very close to a zero profit selling price. At the end, our price was $511 more than my starting negotiation price. The next best price was $700 more - so I may have just reached a high volume dealer who was close to reaching one of the sales thresholds such that they were willing to make ~$500 on the sale. Hope this helps - in the end, it helps to be upfront and not waste dealers time.. I've found there's a less likely chance of getting a good price if you take up too much of the dealer's time - ie in my case, i called all the dealers in one 2 hr period and once confident they had the vehicle - simply said "meet this OTD price or close enough and i'll be there today to buy it". They all knew i was calling other dealers but knew it would be a fast sale w/o a lot of hassle Lastly, a significant thank you to all previous posters - the above approach was determined after reviewing dozens of other's experiences...
