Buying a car from a Hyundai Car Dealer
True that. I just looked up my ride. It's 16 months old & has 15K miles. KBB's suggested retail price is about equal to my negotiated original purchase price. Private party is a couple thousand less than that and trade-in is three thou less than private party. So worst case my car has lost around $5K or about 15% in more than a year. Call it 33 cents/mile. And it's an "oh-my-gawd-depreciation-is-horrendous" Mitsubishi. My wife's '01 Elantra is coming in with private party sale price of around $3500. We bought it new for about $14K. So it has lost a lot of value, but then again it is 10 years old and we could not honestly rate it in Excellent condition as it has had to endure numerous door dings.
So while I have been waiting almost 8 weeks for my allocation to arrive, I've continued to shop around other dealerships looking to see if I can find a even better deal. So far no dice. But last night I had a very interesting conversation with the sales women. Last week she said she was very close to my current offer. Apparently very close to her was 1200 dollars. :) I chuckled and explained my very close would be a range of high side 500 dollars. She has been pestering me with calls and emails for almost a week after that conversation. Telling me she thinks she is now in our range. I called her last night, and apparently the deal was soo good it had gone up another 1000 dollars! I asked her why she wasted her time tracking me down, and I was then told I had to under stand demand was high for the car. I'm hearing more and more of this lately, and it's very annoying that sales staff that I'm dealing with are that incompetent. Or worse that because Hyundai who has had this "Supply Pace" Issue the past two years can charge over the inflated sticker price for a car and get it. Some dealerships are gouging so much they are getting into the price of a Prius! Oh well end of my rant. Hopefully my allocation shows up shortlyl, and my dealer doesn't try any of those last minute contract sneaks.
Oh yeah, I feel WAY more comfortable in the 2011! I still can't believe that it's mine...I feel like I'm in a real nice rental car. Maybe when I make my first payment it'll sink in that it's mine! LOL!
Working with 4 dealerships (via phone and internet only for now) and no one is going lower than a hundred at best off MSRP. I know this car is hard to find now, and it's a seller’s market, but no one is giving in. If I hear one more time "oh, we had 5 scheduled to ship and sold 4 of them already before they even hit the lot..." I'm going to punch someone :) j/k Are there that many people out there just willing to pay MSRP and just don't care. I guess I'll have to wait until the supply overshadows the demand and try to get a good deal. This is in Wisconsin BTW. Oh yeah, here is a classic example of bait and switch (via their website). One dealer has a Limited starting at 20,148 (great price considering how it is now) and than they show (HMF Cash Bonus of 1,000 off) now we are down to 19,148 on a Limited (no Navi I assume). So I email them and ask for a quote, get back a listing with best deal on the same car as 20,845. Not to mention the HMF Bonus cash only applies to the 2010 line. Will they say "typo"?
Went to Truecar.com based on another posters recommendation. Got all the numbers I need to be armed with. Scheduled an appointment with the local dealership. Also submitted info to truecar as they had a confirmed dealer quote me for 19571 without any haggling, which seemed to be a good price range to expect. Local dealership showed a internet msrp of 20800. On site sales agent in the 4 square box started it at 20845...... typical pressure sales crap. Got down to it, showed him my confirmed quote from the dealership 125 miles away. Twice did the manager walk. Final they were willing to move was 20500.....oh and a they really wanted my buisness.... 2 hours of wasted time later. Called up the truecar.com connected dealer. We wanted white limited with black interior. Couldn't find it anywhere, so we placed a order as we can wait. Local dealer even bloated the offer further by saying they found a white with grey interior limited in WI but they didn't want a dealer trade so I'd have to foot the 800 destination fee as well. The fact that I know the local dealer is selling the limited at 20845 and people are buying them for that is sad! Local dealer was sketcy and a pain. Dealership on the other side of the state had a sale in 10 minutes, all with no haggling, me getting a good deal, and them making easy money. Found out that there may not be a ability to get the white with grey interior? Anyone to confirm that? Either way I'm happy, and would expect that the local dealer was lying about white with grey interior as he lied about everything else. Between the truecar.com site info and reading the sales person exposed thing, I felt well armed and safe dealing with the pressure sales place. Eagerly awaiting my car!
