Buying a car from a Subaru Car Dealer
Oh well, we cannot have it all but I will try to solve that mirror issue somehow ... there is a plugged hole next to the tilt-mirror switch and I think that might be the hole for a heated mirror switch... I have fond memories of Fairbanks and the environs... I took that haul road to Prudhoe Bay but at that time I had a Suburban - ended up with golf ball hole in my windshield and both headlights smashed until I figured out, what to do, when there was an on-going truck approaching ... ditch to the side and cover my head... I made it to Barrow as well but could not drive there (even though I wanted) - I took a plane from Fairbanks there... I miss those long drives through Yukon, Whitehorse, Dawson City, ferry over Yukon river to a small place called Chicken....etc.etc. ... I will be back! At that time, I drove from Los Angeles - non stop (2 drivers) to Fairbanks... it was 4400 miles if I remember correctly!
I am not sure either - but that is how Subaru tech. explains (justifies) the better MPG on that new engine...i.e. because of the 2 chains vs. one belt MPG improved on the new engine. By the way they claim the MPG improves only by 1 ....on the new engine... oh well...
Dealer will not remove it and cannot remove it - dealer would have to plug holes that will be left after removal. Also, there are no parts nor plugs available for holes left after removal as long as it was a factory installed option (like on XT models). If it would have been a dealer's installed option, the spoiler could be easily removed and put back in and drilled holes plugged. By the way, the dealer referred me to a body shop, as most other dealers (good or bad) would do. The easiest right now would be to replace the rear metal gate skin if I would want to remove the spoiler. In the meantime, I've talked with Subaru America tech support and basically the above is correct. In my opinion it's an overkill anyway (more a cosmetic feature than anything else) because it does not really keep any dirt away from the rear window at speed that this car is designed to operate. Oh well, will have to live with it...
After some research, it appears that there are 4 more pins (and holes) in the rear gate frame so the tooth floss is out! Oh well, will have to live with it for now..... Hopefully, future models will have an easier add on / removal of these spoilers...
I think the bottom line is to go with who you feel comfortable with. I had no problem giving my local dealer a few hundred more than the "cheapest" price I found - which was not local - because I'd like to keep my local dealer in business since that's who I need to service my car in the future. So, #1 might be my initial choice - but I'd go back to them with another offer first, say $26,200. Don't forget that they're making about $800 in holdback from the manufacturer on the Premium, so even at $26,200 they are making around $1100 on the deal (based on the invoice price you quoted) - a fair profit for most dealers. But if #2 felt like a reputable dealer to you, go for it. Again, they're making $800 on it through holdback (and maybe more through other incentives we don't know about), so that may be enough for them to be happy. Good luck.
