Buying a car from a Dodge Car Dealer
SLT , Quad Cab , only extras were the towing package equipment. $23,300 after all the rebates and incentives. Baltimore , MD.
2010 Ram 1500 SLT Crew Cab 4X4 5.7 HEMI MDS VCT Big Horn Package Deep Water Blue Pearl Premium Cloth Bucket Remote Start w/ Security Group 20" x 9" Aluminum Chrome Clad Wheels Class IV Hitch MSRP: $40455 Deal: $31500 (not including TTLF) I also got the lifetime warranty ($1995) and 1.9% interest. I had an already pre-approved loan from my bank but they wouldn't match/beat the 1.9% interest. Price included a $3000 rebate and a trade-in of my damaged 2004 Dakota Club Cab SLT V6 4X2 (would have required $4000 to fix based on estimates from separate body shop). KBB had appraised my Dakota as "poor" value. Fair value would have been about $5400. So considering that I needed a bigger truck for the family and the repair costs associated with the Dakota, I think it was a good deal for me. One thing I found surprising is that my auto insurance only went up by $2 from the Dakota to the Ram.
Well since you don't drive much, it would seem more pratical to lease it. BUT it would also make since to buy it also since you've kept your '92 for so long. When it comes to pick-ups, I prefer to buy them. The lease deal does look good, however, I was wondering did you get a mock-up of what a new one would run you a month? Probably not much more and since you have 3k to put down, DC has 3k in rebates that could save your money. As to the power, the 4.7 should pull 4-5k pounds easily. I had a 4.7L-equipped JGC that I would pull a 6000 pound box-trailer with and it did it drama free. And my '06 1500 Sport Hemi 4X4 can pull a 9500 pound trailer without stress. However, if your objective is to save gas by going with the 4.7 vs. Hemi, just forget about it. The 4.7 may have a 1 mpg advantage over the HEMI at best, and now that Dodge has added the MDS system on all HEMI Rams for '06, it should be an even match.
Note: The Megacab was to get the 6.1 in the spring '06. But since Ford is introducing the Hurricane 6.2L around that time, they pushed back to an late Dec, early January release. I've got my sources from my close friend who in fact is a "higher-up" at DC. Don't know if you knew it or not, the 6.1L actually was designed for the full-size/heavy-duty application around the same time DC was developing the 5.7L. The 6.1L actually was supposed to make it into the revamped '06 Ram 1500, but DC couldn't get the allotment of them with the MDS system which will be standard in the upcoming 6.1L. I've had the oppurtunity to read some of the specs of the 6.1L. Let me tell you, it's no joke. DC has made this engine flexible enough to handle up to 525 hp and an astonishing 650lbs of torque. So the 6.1L is in the pipeline for the Rams. As you know, they already have it kicking butt in the JGC SRT-8. 0-60 in 4.6 sec. You make the call.
Make sure you get everything completed before you take delivery or it becomes their way or the highway. I regret making the purchase through this dealership. The finance people are very difficult to work with and it will take a lot for me to go back...my advise, shop else where, or get everything completed up front. Companies need to be accountable for their actions and one thing consumers can do is not do business with them.
