Buying a car from a Subaru Car Dealer
We live in MD and just bought an Outback 2.5 limited w/all weather floor mats, wheel locks, popular equip group 2A which includes puddle lights, rear bumper guard and splash guards for $26,890.00. What's the verdict???
Just got a 3.6R Limited w/Moonroof, media hub, all-weather mats, rear bumper cover, security shock sensor, and wheel locks from Fitzgerald Subaru in MD. MSRP was $34,374 Invoice off of USAA/Zag was $32,089 Another dealer I was shopping at pulled up a screen and told me Fitz's dealer invoice was approx $300 lower than the invoice price I had which was interesting. That dealer actually offered me a better price off of invoice by 0.02% which works out to about $5 better but it wasn't in the color I wanted so I left for Fitz and told them about my deal and they countered. If it was Walmart they could claim the Lowest price, but when you're spending $30k 0.02% obviously isn't a deciding factor. Fitz actually has a no-haggle policy and they offered a really great price right off the bat with no negotiating of $31,372. They post their "best" price on their website which I really like and part of why I gave them my business was their transparency. After some negotiating on my part, I ended up with $30,885. (Plus tax of 3%, tags, and a $100 doc fee) I did agree to purchase their Lifetime Buyer Protection program for $395 which was my final leveraging chip and how I got them budge off of their "final" offer of $31,000. It essentially gives you lifetime oil changes and loaner cars with some other minor things and I figure I'll breakeven in about 4 years. I also took the Subaru financing at 2.9%/60 mos. I test drove the 2.5 and after spending 11 years in my 99 Infiniti G20, I wanted more power. The 4-cylinder also didn't feel as smooth as the SR20DE in my Infiniti, but I didn't think it was underpowered at all. Especially in city driving. The 3.6 blew me away by it's smooth delivery and power compared to the 2.5 (I made sure I test drove more powerful cars before since my primary frame of reference was 140hp on my old car!) I was tempted by the fuel economy of the 2.5 though... We cross-shopped with the CX-9, CX-7, XC70, XC60, GLK350, A4 Avant, Murano, and Highlander and really liked the value we felt we were getting from the Outback, not to mention only being required to use regular fuel! So far loving the car though I missed out the snow storm that wrecked the some nearby areas :)
How far are you from Fitzmall? Southeastern PA is less than 2 hours away from the White Flint store. I drove nearly 2 hours to buy there and it was worth it for the trouble-free experience. Even Philly is only 2.5 hours away from Fitzmall. If they have what you want, that's no big deal. My subaru's daily commute is as much.
I didn't realize we get a $50 referral for referring people to fitzmall. Do you know how many people I have sent there? (not just their White Flint subaru, but their Gaithersburg Toyota and their Annapolis VW). Not only is the advertised price the lowest around, their doc fee is only $99, and their trade-in offers are fair as well (and negotiable). No hard sell in the F&I room either. When I bought my outback from fitzmall, I met a guy who flew in from out of state to pick up his new car there.
Have finally decided on a Forester and have observed / collected a few prices. There is a LOT of 2010 inventory locally (eastern PA) so I'm surprised the pricing is not more aggressive. Looking at a 2.5X Special Edition PZEV with Protection Package 1A: MSRP: $23341 Invoice: $21946 Fitzmall: $21016 Becker: $21400 Overstock: $21210 All of these prices would be + tax (6%) and tags/fees ($215 total.) Anyone else getting better quotes in the PA/NJ/MD area? Searching around the web last night I saw that Wentworth Subaru in Oregon has this model with same options for $20409, so it seems there are some other unadvertised incentives. Since they are 3000 miles away, though, I don't plan to use them as a comparable in negotiations.
