Buying a car from a Nissan Car Dealer
This is a question I asked a year ago. I was looking for a gently used car in that price range. Then I saw that I could lease a new 2010 Sentra 2.0S for only $179/month, 39 months, with nothing out of pocket except the first payment (and the dealer tossed in a free Garmin nav system and portable DVD player). I did the math and figured that was less than payments for a 5 year loan on a $10k used car, which might have little or no warranty left and need more repairs than a new car. Cash flow was important to me, as was low up-front costs, so I went the leased route, and it's worked well for me. It's been a good car for me. Haven't decided yet if I'll buy it at the end (residual about $11k) or turn it in. Funny thing is, I've had 3 new Sentras in my life and all were leased, although I usually buy. They just were really good lease deals.
What are people paying for the Armada SV and SL in the Minneapolis area? The lowest SL with SUNROOF and DVD I've seen was around $41,995. SV as low as $36495 with DRIVER pkg. Been right around $8500-9000 off sticker. Usually March has big sales, any insight from anyone? BTW East coasters, the prices you're talking about are $5k higher than in the MN. Last I checked, you can ship a vehicle for around $800...you do the math.
OK, I was confused by the term "discount", since any amount off list is a discount. So your discount was actually over $2700, before rebate--which is a very good discount considering the markup on the car. I have an AMEX card (actually 2, one for business)... is this buying program free for AMEX cardholders?
Can you clarify what the deal is? Your math doesn't add up. $2500 + $1399 is $3899, but then you show a total discount including rebates of $5240 with "my price" = $14,060. IMO that is a very good deal... if that is in fact the deal.
That sounds familiar! I needed to add a car last April and I wanted something with low payments, nothing out of pocket, and a good reliable commuter car. First I looked used, but with used car prices skyrocketing, I figured out I could lease a new car for the same payment or less than a used car. At that time, the Sentra had the best deal I could find on a car I liked--just $179/month sign-and-drive. Plus the dealer tossed in a free GPS and DVD player. At that time, the 2010 Elantra cost more. More recently, I am seeing leases for the Elantra GLS very close to that, but not for 39 months, which is a good timeframe for me. I have been pleased with the Sentra to date. Fuel economy has been good, and I like the overall smoothness & refinement of the car--CVT, ride, controls. I may not keep it at lease end though--the residual is pretty high in order to keep those payments down. But that's fine, there'll be several good choices when it's time to replace it in mid-2013, including a new Sentra (should be out by then), the new Elantra and Accent, the Cruze and Focus (and maybe the Fiesta), the Forte (now with a 5-door), and the Civic and Corolla should be redesigned by then also. And I can always look used then, e.g. the Elantra Touring and Rabbit/Golf. Lots of good options.
