Re: Quality of Ride with 20" wheels? [blckislandguy] by rayainsw on Tue Jul 13 03:59:28 PDT 2010

Well, obviously, only you can decide if the additional HP [ & TQ ] are worth the additional cash. 2 things: Thing 1 = I would strongly suggest that you try to locate a used S/C & test drive that. Typically the used [ previously loved ] cars have their tire pressures set to specs. [ I check with the pressure gauge in my car, if in doubt. ] An extended test drive is often easier to negotiate on a used vehicle. This may help you evaluate how much the increased acceleration is worth – to you. As well as judge the ride. Thing 2 = I am a Torque junkie. One reason I bought a new Corvette coupe in late 2006 [ rather than any competing sports cars ] was the effortless delivery of Torque. The feeling of acceleration available at most any combination of road & engine speed. While I believe that it is imprudent [ at best ] to approach the cornering limits of any car on public roads, I can utilize full, maximum, WOT acceleration most any time I drive my cars. Rarely for more than 10 or 15 seconds at a time, due to traffic & road conditions & law enforcement – but still. . . And that ability to accelerate [ um ] very briskly, without having to push the engine past 4,000 RPM, is quite satisfying – to me. YMMV. Good luck! - Ray Yes, the Jag web site is a mess . . .

I have only driven one XF S/C – I was talked into a relatively brief test drive a while ago. This was not a ‘demo’ – and my sales associate [ a.k.a – ballast ] said that they keep the tires at high pressures in their cars that just sit on the lot. I was not impressed with the ride quality – but if the tires were set at 40 or more, that would likely explain the issue. From the C+D ‘short take’ – “and we still love the exceptional ride quality” Good luck! Report here if you do take the plunge? - Ray Not currently tempted – even by the 5.0 S/C . . .

Leasing overall by t_girl on Mon Jun 08 12:23:12 PDT 2009

Leasing has changed dramtically and iff you are used to leasing you are looking for some great residual at the end so that your payment is lower! If you are not going through a company that leases like Infiniti, Audi or Lexus, the banking residuals stink! How many of actually buy the car at the end of the lease? So who do you think eats the differance for what the bank says the car is worth and what it will acutally bring at auction? I have been dealing with a Jaguar Sales Guide, who used to work for Saturn...yeah you know the one price store. Honesty... She said that everyone she meets is so focused on the cap cast reduction and the residual, becuase they have been leasing for years and like most smart people, want to know where thier money is, but what no one gets is that all of those Denalis, Cadilacs, Yukons and other "gas guzzling" cars were leased and when the gas prices went up the vehicles were worth half. I'm a nurse and I work hard for my money. I'll admit that I usually buy my cars and run them into the ground, then I got into leasing. Now I want to buy again and leasing the XF for 36months and then buying it at 2.9% finacing is a no brainer. That residual being so low makes the car worth buying. I think that the problem is car sales people are scared and things are lean so if they don't take the time to explain things and help us through the changes, they fudge it and that is frustration. :)

03 X Type 2.5 with 64000 miles for $8,600 by 03x25manual on Wed Jan 02 22:57:42 PST 2008

Two days ago I purchased an 03 X Type 2.5 manual trans with 64000 miles for $8600. I feel that I got a good deal considering its got a clean title. It looks to have been involved with a side-swipe on the drivers side. I can see the bad paint job, but it's otherwise in very nice condition. On the other hand, maybe I got what I paid for. Today...two days after I purchased it...the check engine light came on. I pulled it out of a driveway, put it in gear, stepped on the gas, and it sounded like it gurgled...then hesitated...then it moved along slowly. I will see what the code says is wrong and follow up, but I'm kind of pissed. Lets hope I didn't purchase a money pit. We'll see. Lets get this forum resurrected.
