Buying a car from a Audi Car Dealer
I recently put a down-payment on a factory-order new 2010 Q5 Premium with only the Audi music interface and no other options. I bought it from Austin for $37,175 plus $125 dealer documentary fee plus $2,527 tax and license, for a total of $39,827. Cash deal, no trade-in. This dealer was fairly easy to deal with. We did everything by fax and e-mail until it was time to pay the down-payment. Lead time on a factory order is 3-4 months. MSRP on the car was $38,475. I had negotiated a deal with Audi in Oklahoma City. But, when I tried to place the order, they did the old trick of adding a $200 fee that I had already told them would be included in their price. I dont deal with people whose word cant trusted. I would strongly advise staying away from this dealership. If you deal with them, be prepared to have them add fees to boost your price. I made at least three solid offers to Ft. Worth. They had absolutely no interest in dealing with me and ignored my offers. Several other dealerships said theyd be happy to take my order at MSRP but couldnt be bothered to discuss any discounts. I contacted every Audi dealership in TX, NM, OK, KS, MO, AR, LA, MS, TN, and AL. New Orleans was the only one (besides Austin) that responded with a reasonable price. Most of my offers were made during December 2009. The final deal was done in mid-January 2010. The three dealerships in my city had no interest in anything except taking an order at MSRP. I even gave the local dealership that gave me a test drive the opportunity to match Austins price and they couldnt be bothered to respond. I get the distinct impression that most Audi dealerships have something going on besides the auto business. Theyre certainly not serious about dealing with potential customers. Most of them seemed unhappy that I was bothering them, and only three (Austin, N.O., and OKC) ever responded to repeated offers at $37,000 or above. I dont know what business they are actually in, but its not the auto business. Im wondering whether the car I ordered will actually be made and delivered despite the fact that Ive put a refundable down-payment. Ill post again when I take delivery of the car.
