Buying a car from a Chevrolet Car Dealer
i know i bought the car 3 years ago but i thought id throw it up since im new to the forums here. oh and this is all in canadian $ by the way I was desperate to get out of my tiny unreliable 2001 kia rio so in 2006 i bought a 2005 impala base model with 33000km's. Pretty bland and boring but i have always loved gm styling and i needed a bigger family vehicle. Also this is pretty much right before the market went boom and dealerships were greedy. Sticker - $18,500 Price reduced $750 Trade in value : $6500 money still owed on trade in $6300 No gst :) All said and done $20,000 Current km's -71000 Past Problems- Brake Rotors at 68,000 a/c is currently clogged and leaking into my passenger seat(fixing it tonight). Everything else was wear and tear like tires wipers and such. On the bright side my impala has never made me late for work or stranded me on a road trip for that i am grateful :) Was just desperate to get out of the rio i guess But i think i am going to trade it in for something with mroe options what do you guys think about a 07 ss impala 23,000km for $23,900 or a 08 impala ss 44,000km for $23,800 both are negotiable down some, the 07 seems like a better deal but from crusing the forums here it seems 07 was a bad year for the impala :/ Any sorta of thought on this matter would be appreciated :)
hey crew....i had a fleet mgr print up an invoice price for me on a 2007 LT2 loaded except for nav. and leather and it was right around 30. so i think thats a pretty good deal you're getting. id go with it.
First off let me just say hello to all my chevy silverado owners....just thought id start off with....i just bought a 07 LT2 new body style silverado with the 5.3 flex fuel, loaded to the gills except leather and GPS with only 2100 miles, yes 2100 miles, for a price of 25,000 including TTL. i absolutely love it, especially the 20" rims. The crew cab is awesome for the kids and the truck doesnt even have so much as a mark on it anywhere. Billet grille, toneau cover and bed liner, running boards, rear stereo, towing pckg, garage door opener, remote start, and on star. i think i got lucky with the buy...just wondering what you guys thought. Cant wait to be active in the forum here. Looking to see what you guys think about oils, CAI's, exhaust, etc. Anyways....first post here so please feedback with anything.... later!
OK... I can get a 2007 2.2 LS with A/T and upgraded radio (MSRP $17,790) for $15,990 out the door, after the rebate (dealer stated as $2500... must mean the LT rebate will soon go to $3000 officially). There was a loss leader at $18,512 MSRP that was advertised for $12K this past weekend at a different dealer, before tax & license. I'm disappointed that this car doesn't come with ABS, but that's my only big concern. (They are also trying to force a $200 payment for etching ID codes on the windows, included in the above price.) Good deal or no? I felt like I should be able to get out the door at closer to $15k, especially considering itthe car's basically devoid of extras. They have two identical 2007 units as the only prior year models on the lot at this dealer. Would appreciate any advice/feedback those with experience would care to give. I basically have the day to think it over. Thanks!
Just a note on fake names - keep in mind that dealerships all have caller ID & they grab your # the second you call. My understanding from books I've read on car buying is that they start a digital file on you the second you have first contact with them. So the fake name thing may make them lose respect (like they had any to begin with lol) for you. Every dealer I've called, when they ask me for my phone #, I ask if they already have it & they admit they do. Unfortunately, like Edward23, I experienced a lot of dealers letting me walk. Tahoes are in short supply here, the 08's haven't hit the lots in any significant numbers & the one I wanted had been sitting on their lot for 577 days. Didn't matter. They were still unwilling to negotiate as much as I expected. Question, re; the supplier & GM discount? Do you have to tell the dealer. Back in 92 we bought a Ford (that we still have) & had a vendor discount. The way it worked was that we never had to say a word to the dealer. We were free to negotiate our best deal & after the purchase, we sent our paperwork into Ford & got a $2K rebate sent directly to us. The dealer & sales rep never knew. Are there any supplier/vendor rebates like that? I would think that would be far more advantageous then having to tell the dealer you have a discount.
