Buying a car from a Volvo Car Dealer
Hi everyone, I'm looking at a silver 2009 AWD xc90 (3.2) with the following: climate pckg, versatility pckg (meaning 7 passenger) and premium pckg. When I plug the figures into Edmunds, it looks like these are going a good bit under dealer invoice. The only incentive I'm seeing is cash to dealer of $500.00 - but of course, the dealer may be getting some other $$ from the manufacturer. Any suggestions as to how much off dealer invoice is reasonable? I'm in SC. Thanks!
Thanks to the help of this forum, I negotiated the following deal in Aug. 2007: 2008 Volvo XC90 -Premium Pkg -Climate Pkg -Versatility Pkg -Metallic Paint MSRP $43,350 Cap Cost $38,226 Residual $26,443 24 month lease with 15k miles per year $500/month. $821.36 total due at signing which was inclusive of SC sales tax of $300 Well 24 months has come and gone and now it's time to decide if I should buy the car or not. My question is this, can I negotiate with Volvo Finance on the payoff amount ($26443)? So far, they have indicated that they will not negotiate. If not, would I be better off trying to buy a used XC90 from scratch? My wife loves the car, but after reading recent posts, I can't help but feel like I can get a better deal on an 08 XC90 similarly equipped. Oh, and I'm under the miles so that doesn't factor in. Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions!
We purchased it from Nally. I called and specifically asked for the GM. I went with the 51 month lease versus the 48 or 36 due to the pmt. The vehicle we purchased has the premium and versatility pkg. I also spoke with Mark Kops the GM at North Point Volvo. On Friday he told me the best he could do was $475/mo for the same car based upon a 48 month lease. The North Point quote actually seems more accurate as we received a call from the dealer today that they messed up with the residual by over $1000 (equating to the low lease price). They honored the deal and ate the difference. Both dealers were very professional and Nally was easy to work with. I recommend negotiating the discount off of MSRP. Based upon the price we paid, it appears that they went into their holdback quite a bit. Your local dealer may come close knowing that you are willing to drive to Atlanta to purchase the vehicle. The last car we purchased was a Mercedes R350. We got a local dealer to get close to the price of a dealer in Columbia SC knowing that we were willing to purchase it there. Best of luck!
