If putting in the finance app locked in rates and residuals, and you didn't even order until a few days later... then, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to order a different BMW.. But (and this is a big but), did you order an X5, and now want to order a 5-series? X5s come out of SC, and can easily be sourced before your locked rates run out (end of February). If you want to order a 5-series, you only have six weeks.... probably won't make it. Either way, you should contact your dealer tomorrow... There is no point in taking a car you don't want.... regardless of the terms.

$439/month hard to get by scottnsc2 on Thu Oct 07 06:50:24 PDT 2010

The closest I can get is $486 unless I order one and even then I'll be subject to the Oct 1 price increase by not buying from dealer stock. Retail price is $39460, for 2011, auto, prem, metallic paint, heated seats (not winter package), sat radio. They are saying the $439 lease offer requires $1250 dealer participation (which I assume means discounting their car by $1250). They want me to pay the first payment, sales tax ($300 in SC) and $399 documentation fee (yeah, right) up front. Is $460 a more reasonable number. (I love this car, and probably won't walk away at $486, but I do want to feel I'm not geting screwed.)

1. I thought negotiation was normally for cars in the lot. Should I negotiate with internet manager or just walk in? 2. How long does the delivery take, from placing the order? A few days to weeks? 1. When purchasing a car, EVERYTHING is negotiable, whether its a lot sale or special order. Just don't expect a BMW dealer to give you the same deal you see advertised at a Hyundai or Chevrolet dealer. Also, check the BMW site for special deals. Believe it or not, they often offer a better deal if you finance instead of pay cash. It just depends on when you buy and what's being offered at the time. As for the method, why not try both over the internet and in person? I see no downside to going that route. 2. Delivery depends on the model you select. If you're buying a model produced in SC (X series), I would roughly estimate anywhere from 3-6 weeks. A lot of that timing depends upon what the dealer has "queued" up in the production cycle, and what he has available to modify for your order. If its a model being imported (say, a 3-series), expect a time frame from 6-8 weeks. Usually, it doesn't take long for the build, but you can expect to spend as much time in transport as in every other phase combined. The good thing is that once you buy, your dealer will give you (he should, anyway) the build order # within 24 hours, and you can track you car's progress from order placement to delivery on the BMW web-site, on a daily (or hourly, if you want to) basis. One last note: Spend some time on the BMW web-site, and get very familiar with your choices. Know them inside and out before placing your order or making your purchase. Also, when you "ink" the deal, you will be offered several "options"...wheel/tire insurance, extended warratny/service agreements, interior protection, etc. All of these options "ain't cheap". Give some thought to these extras before you decide. They can easily add $10K to the "out the door" price. You have to decide which to purchase, and which are worth purchasing. Let me know if you have any other questions. Enjoy your ride.

Hi, can somebody tell me how SC delivery works? I'm considering a 3 series and have no idea how it works. Some questions: 1. Do I have to order with a dealer or online? What are the steps of ordering? 2. If order with a dealer, can I still negotiate with the dealer for any incentives or have to pay MSRP? 3. Any prior experiences? Good for you. Taking delivery at the Performance Center is a great experience. I've done it twice. To answer your questions... 1. You simply tell the dealer when you place your order that you wish to pick up the car at the Performance center. There are no additional charges, and BMW will put up up at the nearby Marriot the night before. And feed you. And take you via bus to the PC the next morning. All you do is pay for your transportation to SC. 2. There is absolutely no difference in the way you negotiate the price for your vehicle, whether you take delivery at the dealer or the Performance Center. NONE! 3. Its a fantastic experience, and you get the opportunity to drive the crap out of some BMW's in a way that you would never treat your own car (at least, I wouldn't!). Go to BMW's web-site. There are many details on the PC delivery... http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Experience/Events/PDS/ProgramsandCourses/- DeliveryProgram.aspx
