Re: just bought limited with navigation [chuck1919] by abigmutt on Mon May 24 20:09:56 PDT 2010

Yes, chuck1919: I guess it is common business practice. But why do you question my desire to buy a new Sonata at this time? That's what most of the people posting on this particular thread have already done or are preparing to do. Because your current car blows up isn't the only reason people buy new cars. But I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say "mental games, effort and time". This is not what I bargained for but I guess we all have to go through some of this if we want a new car at a fair price. What's a fair price? well, when buyer and seller agree on a price, I guess that's the first step to a fair price. I question why you're dumping on ME, chuck1919; I'm the victim of these deceptive practices and I'm just reporting the facts as they unfold. I thought others here might want to know. (maybe you're one of THEM (the weasels) and you're defending these despicable practices, chuck1919) But hey, guess what? Unbelievable !!! It happened AGAIN; today! (only much shorter time-frame than last time). This past Friday evening I contacted a dealer about 100 miles away; and told him the Sonata that I was looking for. Low and behold he had one! He replied to my email on Saturday with a price quote: MSRP price and the price he was willing to sell for to me. Good price: $26000. so I immediately wrote and called back saying I would take it. He said fine, he had to go to his other lot to get it, and I should call back in 2 hrs. In 2 hrs he said he was getting the exact car that I wanted, price was $26,000 and he'd put a Sold sign on it and wait for me to come in on Monday morning. Well, today, Monday morning, I drove the 100 miles but when I got there he said "sorry, this car is in such high demand that the price had to be $26,850." I was stunned of course, because we had a written offer and acceptance deal !! He apologized but said nothing he could do; take it or leave it. I left it. These are unscrupulous weasels, just like car salesmen have always been. Wasted a day and 200 miles driving !! Dealer is Garden Grove Hyundai in Garden Grove, CA. but it could just as easily be any one of the dishonest snakes that pass for car dealers here in southern california. Rick

King Hyundai - Unscrupulous liars by bowfin47 on Mon Aug 24 17:46:23 PDT 2009

On Sat. night (9-22-09) was surfing the internet, when I located a great deal on a Santa Fe Limited - 2008 Limited (loaded and super clean) with 9,267 mi. for $18,790 at King Hyundai - Deerfield Beach, Fl. At that time, I emailed King Hyundai a request for more info. At about 5 p.m. E.DT on Sun afternoon (9-23-09), a salesman from King Hyundai called my cell phone and after discussing the condition of this vehicle; that the actually mileage was less than 9,000; and with him agreeing to fax me the CarFax, so that I would have it in the morning (which didn't happen??), we made the deal. He was to send me the paperwork this morning (Monday) after his Monday morning sales meeting, and after receiving this paperwork, I was going to wire a substantial deposit to hold the vehicle. We had a verbal contract - A DEAL. O.K. Everybody's happy... Wrong!!! This morning (Monday 8-24-09) at a little after 10 a.m. - CDT, the salesman calls and says that the Santa Fe was SOLD last night!!! What!! Yesterday, he told me that they closed at 6 p.m. EDT. If he and I were on the phone off and on until about 5:50 p.m. EDT, then how could they have sold my Santa Fe?? He sheepishly said that another salesperson had sold the car while he was on the phone to me I didn't believe a word of it. You see, when he called me on Sunday afternoon, I asked him for his best OTL (Off The Lot) price, and he started to say, "the asking price is $24... but I could let you have it for... lets see 21.4.." That is when I interrupted him and said that 'ya' better check your web site". He did that, and I could hear him checking with someone else before he came back to me. At which time he said o.k. that the price on the web site was his best deal. So, before 6 pm EDT, the web price of $18,790 was the price to which we both agreed. In their Monday morning sales meeting King Hyundai sales managers must have realized that they could get more money for that vehicle, and they had a case of "sellers remorse". So, they pulled it... Actually, at 10:20 a.m. CDT, I checked the King Hyundai web site and this Limited (same photos and vin number) was still on their web site the $18,970 price??? But by 10:50 a.m. CDT is this same SOLD VEHICLE was on their web site for $20,995!!!!! Yeah, it's the same mileage /photos / vin number!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just at a $2,225 higher price!!! So, a few minutes later, I had a buddy call King Hyundai and ask their internet sales manager, Theresa Race, about the Santa Fe Limited listed on the their web site at $20.995, and she told him that there had been a lot of interest in this vehicle, but it had been listed on the internet at the wrong price and that $20,995 was the ACTUAL price She told him he could come by and test- drive it today! Pretty good for a SOLD VEHICLE!!!! I then called King Hyundai, looking to speak to the internet sales manager, but the call was answered by the same salesman, ALEX, who made the deal with me. He was surprised to hear my voice and he acted shocked that the Limited was not sold. He claimed no knowledge of this and asked that I not kill the messenger that he was just the lowly salesman. He then showed his true colors when he stated that as I had not signed any paperwork, that we didnt really have a deal anyway I explained the concept of a verbal contact... to no avail... But I didnt get put through to anyone higher in the King Hyundai organization either So, I then called Hyundai Motors of America in CA. Where a nice lady told me that she was starting a file number on my complaint (which she gave me), but that if any corrective action was taken by Hyundai America, those actions would be internal actions and that Hyundai Motors of America would not inform me of those actions if any. So, that means that I was basically told that I would not receive any help from Hyundai of Motors of America... I then place two calls to Mr. Craig King, whom I was told was the owner of King Hyundai, with no return calls So, as I see it: King Hyundai falsely advertised their vehicle, made and broke a verbal contact with me, lied to me about the selling "my vehicle" (i.e. the deal), and then told me that it never was a deal! Yeah and dont forget that the salesman DID CHECK THE PRICE THAT THEY SET BEFORE AGREEING TO SELL ME THIS SANTA FE LIMITED. So, take it my experience with King Hyundai in Deerfield Beach, FL for what it's worth... Kyle

Price Quoted and (NON)Buying experience (Hampton Roads, Virginia) by billward on Wed May 06 13:47:32 PDT 2009

Ok, there will be a happier message in a few days about the Hyundai Sonata we ARE buying (arranging financing now and taking delivery Saturday!) but it's time for an UNPLEASANT Buying experience (i.e., the dealership tried to perform a bait and switch). I used Edmunds here to send my vehicle request to local dealers: a 2009 Sonata GLS I4 with Automatic and Popular Equipment Package 2, Slate Blue as preference. There are "four" local Hyundai dealships in my area, but one of them owns one of the others (it's a subdealership), Hall Automotive. The other two dealers (Priority Hyundai and Checkered Flag Hyundai) responded quickly, via both email and phone, although Checkered Flag never did get back with a price to us (surprisingly, since we've done most of our work with them, and they've always followed through in the past; we've even had our in warrenty 2003 Sonata's work done there). Priority came up with a reasonable offer, though in the end it was about $1600 too high compared to where we ARE buying our car from. Hall, however, came up with a GREAT offer, at $14999, with (as expressed in the offer) only the $2000 rebate taken out. Hall, by the way, is one of Edmunds Premier Internet dealerships. With our current Owner Loyalty rebate, that meant we would get the car we wanted for 13499 plus taxes/tags/title.... that's just fine, it's even about $2500 less than we were looking for. The email explicitly stated that I may be eligible for other rebates (I know that! I'm eligible for $1500 more, only a year shy from being eligible for the $400 college rebate (I'm working on a PhD) and I work for the military, though I'm not in (so I don't qualify there....). So I call to confirm it, and they say "oops, it's not PEP 02, but it is the automatic". Ok, even at $15649 (too much if the car is $14999, but...) I'm willing to jump on it. Then the Internet manager comes in.... "Oh, but that's with every rebate applied". Not what the email says... email says I might be eligible for even MORE rebates, and the only rebates applied are those EVERYONE gets. I point this out. He starts getting upset with ME, and says that they ALWAYS do that. In other words, they ALWAYS lie to potential customers. This is when I start getting upset... I'd already said that I would be there "tomorrow" (which is now TODAY) to pick up the car. Even then, I give him the chance to make good.... he can fix his way of doing business, and sell me the car at the price he's quoting plus the differential... nope, he's not willing to do that, but "I'll ask my manager and get back with you". Internet shopping is supposed to be about taking the liars and the "Oh, I have to clear that..." folks out of the equation.... but not at Hall! So, even though I knew that I was going to end up moving on (if they're dishonest from the first get go, I know just what caliber of people we have here....) I gave him the simple choice... make me whole or I'd let folks know about their tactics. And when the call ended, I started checking... which I should have done from the get go. Priority has a good reputation locally, so does Checkered Flag... Hall? Not so much. There was even another report about Hall here on Edmunds, though only on the Mazda side. So, folks, steer clear... the folks are NOT honest. On the other hand, I decided to see what the non-local, but still close regional dealers could do... and that included all the way up to the famed Fitzmall.... along with dealerships in Williamsburg, Richmond, Fairfax, etc., and within two hours had found not one, but TWO very good deals for exactly the car we wanted (down to the color, except for the interiors). So, stick around a few days and I'll give you the much better deal that I got from one of the regional dealers.
