The deal is done. Bizarre by far. I had to return to my Toyota Dealer and resign paperwork reflecting the sales tax added on to the Mazda5 trade in. I was then driven 20 miles to the Mazda dealer. A Toyota dealer rep drove me. He had a cashiers check FROM ME to the Mazda dealer for the deal. I then "bought" my Mazda from the dealer. The Mazda dealer said there are several customers and dealers who are surprised by the loopholes. I am glad this is done. If I lease another Mazda it will NOT be through Mazda American Credit.

Hey Jeff: Thanks for the comments - much appreciated. Good point about driving the ACTUAL vehicle, but what is protocol when they are getting the vehicle from another dealer? I guess I just tell them it won't be final until I drive THE car? "Web sites sometimes are off on MSRP because manufacturers sometimes change them during a model year," Even the manufacturers own web site? If that is the case, I liken it to a store not updating their floor price even though they made an internal change on price that rings up different at the cashier. My view is that it's their resp. to keep things updated, esp when it comes to price. Personally, when I make mistakes on price quotes to my clients, I always honor my price when it's lower than it should be - because I made the mistake. "don't forget the shipping/delivery charge for the vehicle which is often $500-$750" Shipping is included in the MSRP on Mazda's site. Also included in all my calculations. LOL - you must be a dealer/salesperson?: "I WANT them to make a living or else they're not going to be around to take care of servicing my vehicle." :D Umm, not trying to put anyone out of business, here! They are big boys and girls I think. If they can't do a deal, then they can say that in a direct and mature way, hopefully, instead of trying to wiggle stuff in and sneak it past me. If it gets to a point that their profit margin is too thin on a deal, then they should walk away from ME, and I would completely understand that. I do it to potential clients all the time - they want a price that I can't do, so I tell them I can't do it. Very simple. "Some people will haggle over a couple hundred bucks." If it were a couple hundred bucks, then no, I would not be that concerned - heck I'm not "Concerned" now, just trying to get a fair price. It's $500, and moreover $500 that I know is being used to pad the price. In reality, I could have gotten hard core on them because the 1st salesguy that talked to me said he could put me in a 08 GT for TWO TO THREE hundred over invoice. That quickly changed to $500 over, then the definition/value of "invoice" got challenged (added in $1,000 ad fees!), and now MSRP is even being debated (well, it MAY be, have not brought up that point yet), which is supposedly the one constant. LOL. " How long is it taking you to deal with it? Could you be doing something better with your time - like spending it with your family? Is it causing you stress?" Well, I am emailing back and forth, so it's taken very little time actually - probably 30 minutes of total typing over several days - I respond when I have the chance, and he responds in kind. Is it stressing me out? Not at all...I am not in that much of a rush, I know I can buy a similar vehicle from a number of places, and to date, I have had nothing but pleasant exchanges with my salesperson. I expect that to continue. Thanks again for the idea about driving THE car, very good point.

I'd like to share my buying experience at Anguili Mazda in Staten Island, NY. It was a nightmare! Beware of Anguili! I requested a quote through edmunds.com on Mazda3 i Touring with three options: a/t transmission, 6CD and sunroof package and wheel locks. They called me and quoted $16.700 and no fees on top except for DMV and tax. That is below edmunds's TMV so I decided to buy immediately. It was end of the month, they might have reached their quotas or something, I thought . At the dealership, they offered me to apply for financing through them, which I agreed (just to see if I could get better APR that my Capital One Blank check). They told me that in order to show to their bank that I really will put down $2000, I need to leave a deposit in the amount of $2000. I wrote them my personal check for the amount requested and signed the buyer’s order. So, here is their trick: Instead of writing my price $16700 on the order they wrote: “ customer requested his monthly payments to be in 300’s. Deposit refundable if cannot meet terms”. The salesman assured me that it is customary to put it this way and they would tell me my APR tomorrow and if I change my mind, they will refund the money. It took them 5 days to get to their bank and tell me their APR. The APR was good enough and again at the dealership I was ready to pick up my car. And guess what? Now the price was $17.700 and doc fee was $145. I said I was not buying at their new price and asked for my deposit back. What now? They told me that deposit will NEVER be refunded if I refuse to take the car at their new price because THEY DID MEET THE TERMS – THEY GAVE ME PAYMENTS IN 300’s!! Sales manager told me plainly that we should stick to the “letter” of our written agreement – 300’s, no matter if it is $305 or $399. And he was so generous that he brought my payments to ONLY $360 a month. An easy way to rob your neighbor for $2000! I placed a stop payment (a $30 fee for that) on my check and was lucky my bank managed to get the money back to my account. What if it was too late? I could have lost my $2000. It could took months before I would be able to recover the money in small claims court…. I was so eager to get Mazda3 – that would be my first brand-new car ever. Now I am unsure if I even want Mazda3 anymore…. Buyers beware! Never give too big deposits, never sign their papers with no car price on it.

90 Day wait to refinance by babeauto on Tue Nov 29 08:30:13 PST 2005

Hey banditboy! So, you are saying that you financed with Mazda, got the 1000 rebate, and then refinanced 3 days later! I was told that for ME to get the rebate, I had to wait 90 days, or I would be charged a penalty. They did tell me that I could pay off in full at anytime with no penalty. I have to go back today to finish some paperwork, so I will double check. I would also still love to know how yall think I did with my purchase. It is my first one and I worry that I didn't do good, I think that is my mother's fault!! haha...

Hi. Purchased a Black Gt - 5 Speed in Montreal and i've got a pretty good deal: 650$ off MSRP + 300$ more for my exchange than all garage visited ------ 950$ Still, even if the car is in stock, the dealer haven't yet received the parts ... ME WANNA DRIVE IT!!! Also, since it was my 1st brand new Mazda, and obviously i wanted to try before i buy, i suggested a compromise and the salesman accepted right away: since they didn't had a manual ready, i 1st tried an automatic MZ5, to get the feel of the car, then, i tried a manual MZ3 Sport, for the manual - 2.3L combo. After the 2 road tests, i've provided a deposit on the car and signed the contract.
