EX-L RES by vardashan on Tue Feb 22 13:48:36 PST 2011

I have to extend a word of thanks to all of the folks who have posted on this forum. Armed with information, I was able to secure the following deal on an EX-L RES - Smoky Topaz Metallic / Truffle interior. The dealer was great to work with. When it came time to talk about price, I just told him what the best offer I had was and just said that the price was where I was going to be at (I used the Hogan method). He nodded and pulled out his invoice on the car, showed us the price and said that was what he would charge. I was rather shocked as the Smoky Topaz / Truffle combo looks great and I think he could have sold that van at MSRP without much trouble. I did find that the *vast* majority of dealers out there are not willing to deal on these vans at all. Out of the 18 I initially contacted, only 3-4 were willing to deal. One was a bit higher than the other 3, another I caught loading up the deal with some sort of fee that drove up the OTD cost but were unwilling to say what it was over email or phone so the remaining two were who I ended up dealing with at the end. Most dealers price for the van only was higher than what I am paying OTD. There was no pressure. It was the easiest deal next to when I bought my SuperDuty on the "no-haggle employee pricing" Ford D-plan offerings here a couple of years ago when automakers were in their pre-bailout death throes. This dealer is Bender Honda out of Clovis, NM. We are going to pick it up on Friday and Momma is excited. Currently she has been hauling our 3 kids around in her '05 Mazda Tribute and since our 1yr old outgrew his infant seat, we have moved him to a regular car seat. We quickly found that 3 regular car seats do not fit in the back seat...not by a long shot (and people complain about the 3rd gen Ody not fitting 3 car seats across...lol). So now, our 7yr old has to ride up front in a booster so we are changing that. Best Overall Quote Vehicle: $32,651 Destination: $780 Doc Fee: $75 + TT&L Dealer 120mi. away This was not the lowest quote I received. The lowest quote would have required a plane flight, a hotel and a half-day of vacation from work. The money worked out in favor of the closer dealer (120mi. away). Time and money wise, the above deal just worked out better for us. However, I do have to extend kudos to Corwin Honda for being a great dealer to work with - they also had the best price. Lowest Price Vehicle: $32,176 Destination: $780 No additional fees + TT&L Dealer 770mi. away The Odyssey, its' fuel mileage, space and utility have us excited. We take several trips a year ranging from 8 - 15 hours on the road. Long trips like that in my SuperDuty will lighten the wallet fast and my wife doesn't like driving it - says she feels like she is driving a bulldozer. Good luck and thanks to Edmunds for the helpful forums!!! Curtis

Re: 2010 Odyssey EX-L w/NAV and RES [ezcastillo] by boulder_bum on Mon Nov 08 14:34:26 PST 2010

@ezcastillo - I know a dealer in Denver whose initial bid was only $34,700 for the 2011 model with RES and I believe invoice pricing is higher on the new models. The N. Colorado quotes seem a little high. What I ended up doing (I just purchased my 2011 Touring last Saturday) is to log on to Honda's website, then start soliciting quotes from everyone in the area. I took the lowest two, then set a target price below the initial bids to see if either would meet it. If you live in Ft. Collins or thereabouts, then it may be too much of a drive, but by far the lowest bidder in the area for me was Front Range Honda in south Colorado Springs. There's a guy named Shawn (719-439-1954) there who hooked me up with a price that was $1,300 below the average bidding price for the area. I live in Castle Rock, but even called NM and TX dealers to see if they'd beat that price and no one was close. If you contact him, tell him "Colin" sent you. I said I'd spread the word about the deal I got (he literally was the best by over $1,000) if he hooked me up with kickbacks for accessories. :-)

I do not know in NM, but at least at the dealer I purchased from in Dallas, Texas, the 2 year 40k extended powertrain warranty was thrown into the mix and not priced separately. Granted, this extended warranty was not an extended Honda warranty, but a third party warranty.

After going thru the internet and getting quotes from all nearby dealers, I bought from the Borman Autoplex in Las Cruces, NM after being disappointed by the dealers in El Paso who didn't know how to close a sale for the life of them. The price of the car was about $17,900 after TX taxes and tags I was at about $19,200 OTD. El Paso Honda wanted $20k OTD and figured me stupid for a savvy internet buyer, I had offered $19,3 OTD to Rudolph Honda they were hesitant and I could tell it was going to take all day to get them there. I know people have been pleased paying about $18k (just the car, sans TT&L) and people from states with similar tax to TX were happy with $19,500 OTD, so having got it for $300 less than that I am very happy with my purchase. The best part was that Borman offered me that price and I took it that day. It was a nice drive up, the drive back gave me a chance to break it in. The other dealers had straight up LIED about Borman, I was in and out in about an hour and a half. If you live in El Paso, its worth it to go up there. I did not try Jack Key Motors, I figured 3 was enough to get me a good deal.

Experiences buying my LX-S by tupuc on Thu Mar 12 09:52:32 PDT 2009

The dealerships that I contacted are located in El Paso, TX, and Alamogordo and Las Cruces, NM. This information may help those around these areas. Rudolph Honda: Everything went as normal, we were negotiating the final price and he was willing to beat the price (before TT&L) of another dealeship; btw they had already sent me the TT&L breakdown. I was about to commit and asked the final price. Finally after 2 attempts where they pretended they didn't understand my request, they sent me the total price. It was 200 dlls more expensive than the other guys' offer. I confronted the sales manager and showed him the TT&L amount he had sent me, and proved him it didn't make sense and I wasn't saving any $ but paying 200+...his email replay was "Thank you for your interest, if you change your mind give us a call" beware of this dealership. Jack Key Honda: Great attitude from the sales guy, honest and w/o gimmicks, only problem is that it's 100 miles away from El Paso and didn't beat El Paso Honda's lowest price. Honda Borman Autoplex: inexperienced salesman (he didn't know that the Si needs premium gas), pushy, disrespectful and obnoxious manager. He was more interested on talking and pushing the sale than listening to the customer. Offered $500 dollars trade-in for my car that according to Blue Book is valued at $5000. When I was on my way out he literally threw his business card on his desk and told me to give him a call if I changed my mind. beware of this dealership. El Paso Honda: Great internet sales manager, John Hummels, honest and straight forward, if he cannot match the offer he doesn't beat around the bush and tells you. I'm buying my LX-S from them.
