After 3 weeks in the shop, Hyundai replaced the engine. The dealer's shop said it spun a main bearing - and said he had never seen that before. Running good now. Not sure if you've driven many Asian cars, but the Elanta's wiper stalk is very conventional for Asian cars: flip up for mist (one wipe), down one notch for intermittant (with a rotary control to adjust interval), down one more notch for slow wipe, and down one more notch for fast wipe. That's the way most Asian cars including Hyundais have done wipers for many years. I find it very easy ... Read More

The Sorento is a good example of what I was talking about. Kia began selling it in January 2010. Thus they could legally call it a 2011 model, since it debuted in 2010. If they started selling it one month earlier, in 2009, they could not have called it a 2011. Another example is the 2011 Sonata. Just the fact that Hyundai is still advertising 2010 Elantras going into the second quarter of 2011 is another reason for my comment. They are manufactured at the Hyundai plant in Montgomery, Alabama, which is also where they make the current Sonata. They are, quite literally, selling faster than they can build them! According to my calculations, 7% tax on the same transaction would be about $600 more, meaning that $14,500 for you would be equivalent to the deal that I got. So the lifespan of the Gen 4 Elantra was only four years. Amazing, given the more typical 5-6 year lives of cars these days. Shows how aggressive Hyundai is getting--to replace a design that is still competitive, and which was just tweaked for 2010.

I took the lowest price, which happened to be the closest dealership. I wanted a GLS with a sunroof but they couldn't find one, so they said they would have it installed.
