Performance The 2.4-liter inline-4 engine lacks power and torque, but the six-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and is well-geared for the engine. The Sportage has relatively slow acceleration with a 0-60-mph time of 9.5 seconds.

Driving Dynamics Steering has a sporting quick ratio but high overall effort, especially around center. The ABS brakes have an intrusive pulsing. The stability control meddles with the handling limits.

Ride Comfort The ride is sporty and firm, yet not well-controlled with a lot of body movement.

Quietness About average quietness with regard to road and wind noise.

Ergonomics Very good control layout. Most controls are very easy to use.

Visibility Good front visibility with slightly thick front pillars. The rear pillars are thick, but there's an available back-up camera that helps.

Seat Access & Space Good headroom in the front and surprisingly good in the rear considering the sloping roofline. However, shoulder room is slightly tight in both the front and rear areas.

Cargo & Storage There's a decent amount of cargo room as the Sportage will just fit two large and two roll-on suitcases.

Build Quality Good exterior build, but interior materials and finish are slightly above average.
