2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6AM)
Summary: I own an '09 M3, but prefer to drive this '11 Golf TDI.
Great exterior style, very comfy seats (I am 6'4") with great side support for back and hips. Audio quality is great... get the Dynaudio option.
Very fun to drive... the torque hits like a 2 stroke motocross bike... at all RPMs. Very fun to corner around free way ramps... Holds family of four quite comfortably.
I had a significant collision within weeks of buying it... and the front end got crushed, but the engine was 100% OK, and the subframe wasn't touched. So the VW front end collision system absorbs hits very well.

2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6AM)
I have enjoyed my VW during the first 1,000 miles. Very fun to drive, seems to be very well built. In country roads (average speed 35-45 mph) I get 38-42 mpg! I traded in a BMW X3, which got 18-19 mpg under the same conditions. Handles beautifully, love the audio system (Dynaudio). Very comfortable front seats (I am 6'1")
I had previously looked at the Prius, Ford Fusion and Lexus CT and they don't come close as far as handling and fun factor.

2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6AM)
Just got this 2011 Golf TDi last month and it has been an amazing car so far. The ride is very german, firm but still comfortable. The bluetooth streaming and phone feature pairs instantly. The touch screen audio system is awesome. Great sound with no subwoofer. We also have a 2009 Jetta Sportwagen TDi with 30,000 miles on it and reliability has been great. I'm expecting the same with the Golf. I commute between Irvine and San Diego and I consistently average 48 mpg cruising at 65 mph.

Purchased new 2011 Golf TDI 4/30/11 and was excited to bring it home. Unfortunately, The engine had moderate corrosion on all aluminum parts. Unclear as to how this occurred. May have been exposed to sea water during shipment from Germany. Big disappoinment.

I purchased a new 2011 golf 4 door TDI on May 30, 2011 from a central coast dealership and when I brought it home and inspected it, I discover that the engine had moderate corrosion on all aluminum parts.
Unsure how the corrosion occurred on a new car, but buyer beware. This car is shipped from Germany and the protection from the sea water may have been compromised.

2011 Volkswagen Golf 2dr Hatchback (2.5L 5cyl 5M)
I like everything about this car.
The quality of the interior was the first thing that attracted me to it.
I sat in one at the Cleveland Auto Show and the highly bolstered seats gave me a very welcoming hug.
The trip computer is awesome.
It drives even better.
The 170hp engine has plenty of power and the exhaust sounds really nice.
The manual transmission (I have the 5-speed) is really smooth.
Better than on a Civic Si or a Kia Soul (other cars I have experience with).
If I drive conservatively I can average 35 mpg on my commute.
Only down-side is that I don't think you can open the trunk unless the key is out of the ignition?

2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI 2dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6M)
Driving 100 miles per day to work & back was not doing anything for me or my 335i. I needed something comfortable and economicle-Diesel seemed to be the best thing. I had just bought a 2011 Jetta for my wife, & loved it. The golf was more fun to drive, and now after 1500 miles I can say that driving across Houston's traffic and getting 46+miles per gallon, makes me happy!! The seats are great for a slightly overweight 5'10" guy, it has all the "Pep" that I need (It supprises me frequently) ok, its not a twin turbo Beemer, but it goes. My only fault with it are the heater controles, which are a little "Cheap" but other than that, I love it. Bravo Volkswagen !!

2011 Volkswagen Golf PZEV 2dr Hatchback (2.5L 5cyl 6A)
I had a 1973 VW Super Beetle, my first new car, and, due to driving around with five full size guys in the car, bought a used 69 Ford Thunderbird coupe, the party mobile, Regretted not keeping the VW longer, really solid, well-built car, and fun to drive.
Bought a 2010 Toyota Prius in December 2009, and traded it on a 2010 Golf 2dr gas AT 3 months later, due to lack of driving enjoyment when the cool factor of the Prius wore off, and everything became about gas milage with it, which wasn't as good as they advertised.
They said it was due to it being winter, and the gas motor needed to run to run the heater, but they don'ttell you that before you buy it.
Fahrvegnugen!
Like my VW.

2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6AM)
I really want to like this car.
It has great mpg, seems to perform OK, however what's killing my endorsement is the vehicles seats and fabric.
The seats are highly bolstered sport seats, which is fine, but the waffle-like texture of the cloth has proven to be defective.
I have severe fraying and premature wear on the side bolster on the driver's seat as well as the seat back.
VW is supposedly ordering me new seat covers and will install at the 10k service.
Posts all over the Internet indicate that this is a pretty universal problem with all 2010 and 2011 Golfs.
This fabric is a nightmare.

2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6AM)
I sold off my 2005 Prius due to excessive road noise and it being the most boring car ever in the world to drive. What to get instead? I had rented a TDI Golf in Italy early in Dec 2010 and absolutely loved it's performance on the autostrada.
By end of Dec I had found my Golf 4dr auto TDI with all the right options. Drove it from Phoenix dealer to our San Jose home, 13 hours straight. Never had so much fun driving. The Golf is smooth at 100mph as it is at 55mph. The seats are comfy with lots of lateral support. The stereo with six months of free Sirius kept us company on the I40.
The diesel engine's torque and DSG tranny couple nicely at all speeds, city or highway. Torque is plenty!
