After 3 months I've heard only that the car was "born" on 3/24 and is sitting in a lot in Illinois awaiting transport. Go to the dealer you prefer and negotiate the deal based on them finding the one you want. You will probably have to pay $3-400 for them to do the exchange (transport costs). You could also just order one and wait for it. The Tuxedo Black is hard to find because as already noted, something in that paint color comes from Japan and they can't get it. Good luck.

I've been reading through the forums trying to get an idea of what folks have experienced regarding local inventory of 2011 Explorers. Is there just a shortage of Explorers? I've been searching local inventory (central Maine) for about four weeks now, and there are only four Explorers available.......... I've contacted Ford to ask about inventory. I've also asked the dealers, who of course said "they just fly off the lot"; of ... Read More

HI Ryan. Ford Credit's current base lease rate for a 24 month lease of the 2011 Explorer is 0.75%. The base lease rate for a 36 month lease of this truck is 2.5%. The 15,000 mile per year residual values for an '11 Explorer Limited AWD are 59% for 24 months and 51% for 36 months. Car_man Host Prices Paid: Buying & Leasing Experiences Forum

Thanks for the additional information jju. According to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2011 Ford Explorer Limited FWD that has an MSRP of $44,200 and a selling price of $42,700 through Ford Credit right now for 36 months with 12,000 miles per year, your zero down, pre-tax monthly payment would be around $617. I live in Northern New Jersey and just ordered a 2011 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD with the 202A package and remote starter with MSRP $37,603. I got quoted for $429 a month for a 36 Month lease, with 10,500 miles a year and $3,000 out of pocket. Is this a decent deal?

So why are we stuck with a N/A V6 with SFI when DFI would allow it to have a 12:1 compression ratio and therefore not seen a gas-guzzler in comparison. Well, considering the few competing vehicles that are similar in size weight that do use DFI, the difference in FE is negligible. Use the base Cayenne for example. It's similar in size and weight and power to the Explorer. It uses ... Read More

Were I in charge at Ford I would "license" the Cayenne design in totality, including the Cayenne hybrid w/DFI but without the forced induction. Yeah, I'm sure $70+k Explorers that only seat 5 that will get at most a whopping increase of 1-3mpg will just fly off the lots.

It could be because the Sport-Trac is more like a "truck" than an SUV or CrossOver. Truck owners/buyers (mostly MEN..?) do not cotton, in general, to FWD or even F/awd. I've been mildly surprised at the success of the Honda RidgeLine, but then it's only available with "4WD", the VTM-4 system. You can fool some of the people........

On the F/awd version there is a history of PTO overheating and subsequent failure. The earlier rear diff'l/clutch assembly had the same overheating problem until Ford added a thermostat that is used to forewarn the driver of the impending overheat condition. If the driver chooses to ignore the indication the rear clutch coupling is simply disabled, no rear drive, until it cools down. The new 2011 F/awd Ford Explorer apparently uses ... Read More
