| Test Driver Ratings & Comments |
| Acceleration comments | Fairly unobtrusive traction control, only a slight stumble. Disabling traction control for a run makes only a slight difference and requires diligence and prudence. There is so much torque that the rear tires light up at only 2,000 rpm! Also noted that if rear tires spin at all, transmission shifts up to 2nd gear. Tried one run in Manual mode, but tachometer is too slow to properly anticipate redline. Upshifts in Sport are fast and smooth. An impressively fast limousine. |
| Braking comments | Tremendously powerful brakes with medium-firm pedal effort and appropriate initial bite. Excellent fade resistance and chassis stability. |
| Handling comments | Skid pad: For some reason the XJ circled the skid pad slightly quicker counterclockwise with driver outboard. Light-effort steering but remains informative with feedback from tires. When stability control is engaged, the thottle will cut before the brakes are engaged, so soft intervention. Slalom: Remarkably crisp turn into the gates, with buttery-smooth steering action. The car feels smaller and lighter than it is, though the long wheelbase means you inadvertently run down the cones! Well-tuned stability control only dabs the brakes before returning control to the driver. |
