The desgin of the GPS in this car is very bad. You can't use in the daylight. It has the back-up camera but it's worthless during the day. A true waste of our money for this package. Other than that we really like the car.

buyer beware

I'm not sure if mine is the exception, but my Tuscon every once in a while has an electrical malfunction where the key gets stuck in the ignition, the blinkers fail to work, the locks won't work, and the lights won't turn off. Hyundai nor the dealership cannot figure out why this occurs. I was really looking forward to having a reliable vehicle with awd, good gas mileage, at a good value. This was my first Hyundai, and will definitely be my last. I noticed an article in inside line, where the testing manager had the same issue with the 2011 Sonata being reviewed. I wonder if this may be a Hyundai issue and not an isolated problem with just my vehicle. I definitely wouldn't recommend buying.

Best car I have ever bought

2011 Hyundai Tucson GLS 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

This car was exactly what I was looking for. It is great on gas, I am averaging 28 to 35 miles to the gallon (you have to buy medium grade and from a good gas station...yes the quality of the fuel does make a tremendous difference on gas averaging). It has just enough space. Not too big or to small. It has good pick up. It is super safe...with 8 air bags. GET THE GLS OR LIMITED and definitely get the NAVI. It is totally worth it. Talkiing on the phone hands free is totally worth it plus the navigation is awesome. It is so easy to use. I love this car. My only regret is not getting the limited. DO NOT get the GL. Spend a few extra bucks and really enjoy the ride!!!!

I LOVE My Tucson!

I just bought my 2011 Hyundai Tucson GLS two days ago. I went to the dealer, not really looking to buy, just to test drive. I looked at the Tucson and the Sante Fe. Utimately, the final selling point on the Tucson was the EPA ratings. I traded my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee (which I really loved, but it got terrible gas mileage at 17.4 mpg combined) for the Tucson. The dealer was wonderful, and gave me top dollar for my Jeep. I walked away with a fully-loaded Tucson, and my monthly payment only went up by $15. So far, I have put about 150 miles on the Tucson, and it says I am getting 25.6 mpg combined. I am so happy considering gas mileage was my deciding factor.

Almost perfect if you're not expecting an MDX

We have about 500 miles on our Limited 4x4 w/all the options. In many ways this car rivals our 50K Acura MDX. It has all the same options (nav bluetooth back-up camera) which we have come to appreciate in the MDX. But they are much more intuitive and easy to use in the Tucson. Where you really notice that its a 20K less expensive vehicle is in the road noise, most of which seems to be coming from the tires. This is a noisy vehicle, to the extent where its difficult to carry on a bluetooth phone conversation due to the tire noise. For 20K less I'll put up with it, though. I would buy this again, and I'm glad we chose this over the very bland Honda CRV.

Poor gas mileage
By hotrod5 on 01/20/11 17:18 PM (PST)

2011 Hyundai Tucson Limited 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

Review

I considered this vehicle initially because it was rated with 27/32 mpg. Not even close. I now notice it is rated 20/27 mpg. Were they not being truthful? I love the car, how it drives, and the styling, but I will not ever get over this mileage issue--especially since gas prices have gotten so high. I agree with other reviewers that the rear window needs a water squirter and that egress causes dirt on your leg due to the wide sill plate. The center console does not have a shallow tray so I went to the kitchen store and bought a small baking pan to hold my little stuff. Weird, huh?

super safe

We bought this car in Sept. Wife drives it 50 miles round trip to work and back. Last weekend she spun out on ice, went into a field and hit a telephone pole. Her only injury was to her hand from the air bag. No one could believe she wasn't seriously hurt. The cop and insurance adjuster said she was lucky she was driving that vechicle. It probably saved her. The car is probably going to be totaled out. If so we are definately going to get another one.

Not as good as Advertised

After looking around for an all-around economical vehicle, I settled on the Tuscon. For the most part, it's very nice, decent room, rides well, and has a nice base package of interior features. BUT, I'm not happy with my gas mileage or some of the design flaws. I've driven the vehicle for 7000 miles plus (mostly highway), and at best, I've gotten 24 MPG - more typically I'm getting 22-23 MPG. As MPG was one of the key reasons I purchased the vehicle, this is highly disappointing. Two other issues are bothersome. The rear wiper does not have a liquid sprayer. Also, when it rains, and the car is wet, when you open the doors, water pours into the vehicle. BUYER BEWARE.
