Before last winter I purchased a replacement wheel cover and a set of wheel caps for my 2010 Prius 4. I was curious as to why Toyota put plastic wheel covers on aluminum alloy wheels. One hypothesis I had is that is had something to do with improving MPG. I waited until this spring to switch over from wheel cover to caps. Well, after abut 1000 miles I can say that ... Read More
I also purchased a 2010 Prius in August of 2010 and I absolutely hated the wheel covers. We had popped off the cover and discovered alloy wheels underneath but didn't like the look with the missing center cap. You mentioned that you purchased them at a dealer for $70. When I asked the Toyota dealer about the cap, he said there wasn't one for the 2010 Prius. Was the cap for ... Read More
Having just leased a III with NAV this past weekend here in LA, I would say you would be fortunate to get one for $400 with tax. Also, something you may not know, but Toyota doesn't include GAP insurance in their leases...you need to buy it in the finance department (or maybe your insurance company can cover you)...they charge about $15-17/month for that...so tack that on to the above payment. The basic design of the 2011 brake system is the same but you don't know what they may have done internally to the parts or software. The Toyota service part number for the 2011 is different than the 2010.
I read that they redesigned the braking systems for the 2010 Prius. That appears to be Toyota's response to the fact that the U.S. Generation 2 Prius (2004-2009) has had low-speed brake failures reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 31 times the rate of such failures reported for the 2004-2009 Corolla, which of course has traditional brakes. reliable cars
For those of you that don't know, Toyota changed the brake system for the 2010 model year to a completely new design. You can't compare it with previous model years as the system works differently. I have driven the 2010 Prius before and after the software "fix" and agree the problem was not fixed. I also think it is interesting that there are over 800 brake related complaints filed at NHTSA ... Read More

Hi, brand new to this forum, but your situation is also one of mine. I recently damaged a wheel cover on my new 2010 Prius via a car wash, and was pleasantly surprised by the good looking alloys that were underneath the covers. Hi Walt, I was wondering if you might be able to give me some information on the Prius lease special that is currently advertised on the 2010 Prius. You are better off putting minimal down payment on a lease (unlike financing a purchase) and put the extra cash in the bank to use towards the higher monthly payment. You will lose all the money you put down if the car is totaled/stolen shortly after you lease it. You didn't get much of a discount off of MSRP, so it doesn't seem like a bargain regardless.
