When does one stop putting money into a car? In 2010, I had a new A/C compressor , alternater, and Distributor O Ring put in to the tune of $1269. That was followed by a door that wouldn't close at an estimate of $487. I got on here and read about Dupont Silicone and fixed it. In 2011 so far, I have had a Timing Belt Tensioner put it as well ... Read More
My 2011 Rav4 Limited has less than 500 miles - and a crack that runs from top edge to about three inches from the bottom, making a left and a right in its travels. It first appeared as a much smaller crack four days ago; it actually spread while sitting in my driveway! I can't say that it wasn't a pebble, but honestly don't remember hearing anything. I saw some older ... Read More

verdi942, Why it's illegal for an insurance carrier to sell GAP coverage in NY is a mystery to me. It just doesn't make any sense. I would press further. Where does it say that it's illegal? Perhaps it's illegal for particular carriers (e.g., direct underwriting companies) to sell GAP for some unknown reason but, for other's, it's perfectly legal. I'd examine the NY Code of Regulations and, then, call the NY ... Read More
delta, here in New York, my insurance company refused to sell me gap insurance - they said it wasn't legal to so here; so Toyota, unlike every other company I've ever leased from, charges me about $7.00/mo for it.
tsalvo978, The $399 paid for GAP coverage is a rip-off and grossly excessive. As a rule of thumb, you can purchase GAP coverage from your insurance carrier for an annual premium of about 0.1% of the MSRP. In your case, this amounts to about $25 annually. The insurer simply adds a GAP rider to your automobile insurance policy. FYI- Toyota does a few things that other finance captives don't do... (1) ... Read More

GAP insurance $399 spread over 36mo = add'nl $11+/mo and MA state tax (6.25% payable only if you live in MA) = addn'l $13+/mo. Net effect = $212+ due at signing and $224+/mo -- not sure ... Read More
This is the single worst lease deal I have ever seen....for a car dealer to even present this to someone should be a crime. I just leased a Rav 4 Limited for $335 per month with all taxes and fees included....no money down except for first payment. As someone stated above Gap insurance is $7 a month through Toyota.
Are you saying you gave the dealer $7205.79 plus 316.60/mo for this car? That's expensive. [FWIW, you DO need Gap Insurance, and Toyota charges me about $7.00/mo. for it on my lease of the same model car].
I met with a Toyota rep yesterday about my 2011 Rav4 Limited with 3500 miles and paint was completely off just above the plastic protection strip on the rear wheel flare on both sides, along with massive amount of chips in the clear coat. I was offered after market running boards and to replace the plastic wheel flares. This is a 1time good will offering, and this is no service report. ... Read More

Carman or kyfdx, a few questions... Can you please provide the December MF and Residual for a 2011 RAV4 Limited 2WD for 36 months? Forget that, Toyota definitely has a 2011 RAV 4 that will be hitting dealers in a month or so. I even have the 2011 brochure. And I will be buying one soon after they start coming. I do like buying the last year before a major redesign. I understand the 2012 will be more like a truck than in the past. And the last year before redesign is almost always the ... Read More
nah, toyota won't skip the 2011 model; it will be available shortly...before year's end
Edmunds' own site says 2012 Rav4's will be released in summer of 2011. With the lack of info out there about 2011's, that tells me there will be no (or very minor) change from 2010 to 2011 Rav4's...and maybe not even any 2011's. It wouldn't be be the first time a manufacturer skipped a year. For example, here it is 9/10/10 and no 2011's out there that I can see, although ... Read More
Personally I have been waiting for the 2011s after the many Toyota fiascos this last year. Tweaks are being made and I do like the idea of a Brake Override. All 2011s come standard with the Star Safety System which includes a combination of 5 accident avoidance features
On 8/23/2010 I took my Rav4 2004 to Del Toyota in PA for service for an antifreeze leak, underneath the engine. The service department reviewed the leak and totally rejected their own Platinum Warranty on the Rav4. They said the leak is in the engine block threads and may not be fixable. Engine block threads ? They said I would have to replace the entire engine at my cost, which Del ... Read More

Thanks for the kudos. Obviously, we were extremely excited to get this kind of price and, the way I see it, there are a few factors that created the situation. Prime Auto Group is growing and in the process of expanding their market reach. By lowering prices to increase leverage, they are able to pull in buyers from other local/regional markets which increases volume. Volume driven sales creates an extremely competitive ... Read More

I heard Toyota will redesign 2011 RAV4, is that true? I know it comes out in Aug/Sept time frame, in that case I might just wait for 2011. Hopefully Toyota will put 5 or 6 speed trans instead of just 4 they have now. I can't believe they still have only 4. All of the comparable cars have either 5 or 6, it's about time Toyotaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... Other then that i like ... Read More

Has anyone watched the hearing today?? I did, and have gotten some preliminary personal opinions forming. I was disappointed in Lentz's testimony and his lack of knowledge regarding the questions asked to him. Today Toyota story once again changed. (1)Apologies once again. (2)Made statement all engineering issues, recalls, etc. decisions made in Japan. Will be sort of a swat team set up for complaints. Also will be a special US sort ... Read More
Toyota is going no where. I am tickled they implemented brake override system for all models starting 2011, maybe even earlier. Their stats for UA will go way down. The end result should be a win- win for Toyota and owners/consumers, but guess to be honest and objective - still ways to go- pending investigation. This has been a bumpy road. Lots of negative publicity. Ford is coming back it seems. ... Read More
First of all thanks for addressing & responding. (1)Costs - to have my auto flashed if brake override update available for my vehicle is questionable but may range from minimal - to $800+. Since my vehicle is Toyota I would can only guess cost would be lower range. Also since Toyota would actually own computer program - hope this consumer cost would be reflective of this fact. Would I spend $800 ... Read More
Whoops. I apologize if I did not explain myself well. This is all new for me. I was unaware of brake override systems when I bought RAV4. Most average consumers are not even aware autos have this feature. That included me at that time. I was looking at reliability ratings, etc. by different agencies when I evaluated my purchase. Since this all started, my investigations on UA , etc.- became big ... Read More
I am definitely planning to buy a new Rav4 Ltd. with the V6 engine. My timing is a little uncertain at this time but it might have to be sooner rather than later. There will be a redsigned Rav4 in 2012 and the way some manufacturers are eliminating the V6 option, I suspect it may be only a matter of time for Toyota to drop the V6 from the Rav4 line. ... What was I thinking??!! You're absolutely correct - while this would be for my wife (a Limited, trading a 98 Mystique)), I forgot that I have a 95 Explorer with 141,000 miles! If IT can make it that long, so certainly should Toyota, except the Toyota will not have had $6,000 in repair bills (2 new clutches, a transmission, and a transaxle housing) in the last 40,000 like my Explorer. Therefore, ... Read More
Come on, it's a Toyota! It'll easily go 150k, so I say finance it for 5 yrs (or less, depending on your situation), then sell it for $5k. Replace belts/hoses/water pump at 100k, and keep receipts for resale purposes. I'm guessing these are highway miles, so new brakes/rotors every 55-60k. Get the V6 and call me in 2011; I'll take it as my winter car. I had a 94 Acura Integra ... Read More
