After considering the '11 Corolla "S" for purchase, and reading the latest posts here concerning Toyota's eliminating certain features once available, I'm afraid this machine is OFF my small list of new vehicles to check out. Wotta pity. Toyota sure has blown it, BIG time, with the 2011 Corolla. Peace!<-AladdinSane<- -
So you bought this new car sight unseen ? ? ? I guess I would ask why the big rush ? Now your stuck with it! I gotta tell ya though, I'm a very big Toyota fan, (as everyone on this site would attest to), but if I were in the market for another car I would steer away from the new Corolla also as I, like you, would definitely miss ... Yes, I completely agree with you on everything you've mentioned! I too would be disappointed knowing I purchased a new car with "expected" features found in last year's model! I can't figure out why Toyota is making these poor decisions by cutting costs (eliminating once common, practical standard features as found in last model year) thinking customers aren't going to notice these obvious details. In my opinion, the 2011 Corolla is ... Read More
The 2011 Toyota Corolla uses variable assist column mounted electric steering. It has not changed. Same lousy subpar handling. Wobbly loose steering at all speeds and the inability to maneuver the car adequately. Truly an unbelievable joke of a car.
To my prior post of why i walked away from 2011 Corolla because of unsafe steering. I did get a great buy on 2008 Corolla CE; The steering and handling is superb and safe. Strangely enough, the manager of the dealership did not admit there was an issue; his response was - I have never heard of any issue regarding steering. Not just 1 but 2 dealerships said the same; 1 ... Read More
Whether or not I was wrong on the Hyundai doesnt really matter. As far as the 2011 Corolla is concerned I have yet to find out. I figured your company would eventually have to switch from the extremely poor performing column type EPS that a a great many people got stuck with. A lot of people got screwed with really lousy subpar handling cars. It remains to be seen whether the ... Read More
biffpreston1, I'm not sure what grade your English professor gave you on your research project, but I hope it wasn't an "A". You have hurt the quality of this discussion forum by spreading inaccurate information about the 2010 & 2011 Toyota Corolla Electronic Power Steering systems. I recommend 2011 Toyota Corolla S. It is an excellent choice of contemporary vehicle......and I am not Toyota employee :) I have had a chance to drive for some time new 2004 Toyota RAV4, 2005 Solara, 2009 Matrix, 2010 Prius and now 2011 Corolla in the past several years, and I can say that 2011 Toyota Corolla is a very good ride. It is expected that 2012 Corollas will begin production in November 2011. This is most likely due to the new Mississippi plant not being ready until later this year. I test drove the 2011 Corolla and hated it so I just bought a 2011 Fiesta SES. You might not be right about that! Toyota changes the design of its cars on the second year after refresh, so I believe they will have 2012 Toyota Corolla in August 2011, and later on introduce completely new design 2013 Toyota Corolla in January-April 2012. This is just a guess; however, they have to do it, if they want to be competitive to new Focus, Elantra, Civic....
It seems the 2010 Corolla inventory ran out in some places more rapidly than others. In Columbus, OH area, Tansky has 71, Germain has 24, Toyota West have 18 and Toyota direct has 15: that is 128 even without counting the independent dealers! I guess anyone looking for 2010 models still should look into nearby city inventories, or may be even the state next door, since 2010 models have much bigger ... Read More

Similar to the 2011 Corolla being produced much later than usual (Dec. 2010) it is expected that the 2012 Corolla will begin production in November 2011. Thank you for your in depth reply about your new Corolla and congratulations with your purchase! Don't get me wrong, I really like the Corolla. I just purchased 2011 Corolla S and I love it so far! Yes, there is no auto on/off headlights; however, there are so many more things that Toyota has upgraded to 2011. Thank you for your reply. You're right, auto on/off headlights have been eliminated across the Corolla lineup. But yet the housing for the sensor is fitted on the dashboards. Toyota's marketing division must have decided last minute to save money and eliminate this feature to save them "big" money! I really don't know what Toyota is thinking these days. Just a continuous pattern of them cutting costs (eliminating once standard equipment) ... Read More
2011 Toyota Corolla S does not have auto on/off headlights. LE might have them....but I doubt it. I agree with you that they should have them not only on Corolla, but also on all other Toyotas.... If this makes you happy, the 2010-11 Prius does not have them either....
Does anyone know if the automatic on/off headlights are still standard on the 2011 Corolla? I know they come with daytime running lights that turn on automatically regardless of whether it's light out or not. For 2010 Corollas and earlier years dating back to 2003, there used to be a small black light sensor located on the dashboard next to the vent for the defroster. I was looking at the 2011s ... Came across this article while conducting a search on Google. It looks like the Corolla COULD POSSIBLY be redesigned in and out. I don't know how reliable this article is, but could definitely explain the delay of the the 2011 Corolla production until late this year. http://www.prlog.org/10930220-florida-toyota-dealer-to-welcome-2011-corolla-this- -december.html
FWIW, C/D singled out the 2011 Corolla as perhaps the one Toyota model that will have significant changes for 2011. They said details are not available, but the car would be announced at the LA Auto Show.
"... In my honest opinion, I don't think Toyota is going to be doing any big improvements for the 2011 Corolla..." What makes you think so? How else can you explain the unusual delayed arrival of the 2011 models, which should've gone on sale on Feb. 2010 (like Toyota does with most other models)? Toyota is definitely doing a lot of things wrong lately. No question about it, and no matter ... Read More
Most folks don't buy a Corolla for any kind of driving excitement...rather for the reliability and fuel numbers. Fun isn't a variable when describing this car. Sandy Beach replaces the Desert Sand and Nautical Blue replaces the Blue Streak. Supposedly no green color will ... Read More
You said a mouthful and are so correct! I could not agree any more with your speculations about the 2011 Corolla. Toyota definitely has some "house cleaning" to do with the current generation Corolla. Both mechanically and cosmetic for that matter. This explains the delay of the 2011 model year production. Production of 2011s are to begin this November and the cars should show up at dealerships in December or January. ... Read More
You have a 2006 and you are pleased - that's correct. Models prior to 2009 were much better than current models. Toyota does not reveal anything about the 2011's, but there will most probably be more than just "some minor cosmetic changes". We can be assured that they will improve the interior quality, improve steering feel, and some more issues that so many drivers are complaining about. As of now, the ... Read More
"Better keep your 2010 than, as the 2011 Camry has it as well as almost all other new cars." Toyota's website shows the 2011 Camry to have "Variable-assist power rack-and-pinion". No mention of EPS except for the hybrid. I know EPS is probably coming to most all new cars in the future. Hopefully it will be improved considerably by the time I need another new car.
It looks like Toyota will be building the Corolla at a new plant in Mississippi. Here is a news article discussing it. Production will not begin until the fall, which could explain the delay of the 2011 model year. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100617/us_nm/us_toyota_mississippi_4
Not that this information is 100% accurate, but it does look like Toyota is delaying the release of the 2011 Corolla until December. As far back as I can recall, this hasn't happened before with the Corolla. Toyota usually begins assembling the new model year in early March and cars reach dealer lots in April. Here is some information about the 2011 model: http://iguida.com/2011-toyota-corolla
My biggest regret ever is trading in my 2004 Corolla LE for a 2010 Avalon. The 2004 Corolla was one excellent car. Mine had 37,000 miles and was literally like new! No dealer in my region would special order this car with these ... Read More
Sooner or later, Toyota will need to implement many of these feature, if they'll want to stay competitive. The upcoming Chevy Cruze promises to be a hit, (might be another reason why Toyota waits with 2011 model until December - to check out features & packages of the Cruze), the redesigned Ford Focus next year is also very promising, and even for now, the Corolla (once upon a time the leader ... So far what I've researched, the only POSSIBLE changes for 2011 include a standard USB for iPod, and a new 5-speed automatic transmission (on all models other than the XRS) to increase fuel economy. You raise a very good point and I completely agree with you. I think Toyota is very concerned about the so called steering issues with the Corolla. The 2010 Corolla is a new design. If there are any issues, Toyota will correct them. Recalls are very common and essential to maintain quality standards. Things go wrong with machines. I think you may make out better taking advantage of current incentives than worrying ... Read More

Toyota made a public pronouncement last year significant enough that I still remember it: all Toyotas will have VSC by 2009.
