Congrats, Andy. CVT or manual?
Nice purchase, Andy! Good luck with your new Legacy. I like the Premium level, but would prefer leather upholstery. Yesterday, I did a double take at my dealer when I saw an Outback Premium with leather. It turns out the dealer installed Katzkin (a good brand of aftermarket leather upholstery) covers and added $1,499 to the cost of the car. While that's not cheap, I was really impressed with the fit ... Read More

Hey car_man, Can you please provide April details for a Subaru 2011 Legacy 2.5i Limited CVT and history for Feb? From a different type of Tsunami victim, ordered in Feb and car didn't come in until last Friday! Thanks, Jim
I'd be happy to help you out Ian. That money factor looks way high. According to what I've seen, Subaru's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2011 Legacy 2.5i Premium Sedan with 15,000 miles per year are .00070 and 60%, respectively. I know the Optima has shared mechanicals with the Sonata, but I haven't driven the Kia. From what I've seen, the Optima interior certainly looks cheaper than the Sonata's. I have driven the 2011 Legacy and have had several drives in the Sonata, both base trim (several days in a rental) and Limited. I'm a Subaru loyalist, but frankly, if you don't need the all-wheel-drive, the Sonata is the better car. ... Read More

The cabin filter is actually on the pricey side, I'm not sure why but it is. That is hysterically funny that they want $210 to do the plugs on a non-turbo. $210 isn't a bad price on a turbo car due to the placement, but it's significantly easier on the NA cars. -mike Subaru Guru and Track Instructor
Thanks for the response Mike, I went to your shop's website. Seems like a nice deal. I haven't been running synthetic yet, wondering if it's worth it at this point, since I already have 30k on the car. Non-Turbo motors require plug replacement at 30k intervals. Turbo cars require them at 60k intervals. This is because they use Platinum plugs on the Turbo cars and Copper on the non Turbo cars. So on your 2.5i you would need plugs. Your car and the 2011 have different transmissions. I have owned two Subaru Outbacks with the 4EAT that is in your car (one of which was also a 2008), and they were fairly smooth, so there is certainly nothing normal about the symptoms you describe. I suspect the issue is with the electronic control, but I would also inspect the transmission fluid to see whether there are signs of physical wear ... Read More

I think you'll be okay. Subaru did just announce a recall on CVT-equipped models, however. Apparently there was a problem with the CVT cooling hose cracking on some models. See link: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/12/subaru-recalling-nearly-30-000-outback-legacy- -models-over-cvt-c/ The tow rating matches previous Outbacks. The only thing I don't like is the non-folding outside mirrors. Apparently enough people complained because the soon-to-be-released 2011 models will have folding mirrors once again. Bob

Actually it's MY 2010 for the Outback/Legacy and MY 2011 for the Tribeca for US models. The Outback/Legacy just got a refresh for MY 2008, and Subaru historically does that as a mid-cycle update, which means letting it run for two years.
