Actually, we're not young adults at all, much older in fact! You mentioned noise. Go drive both back to back over the same section of road to see for yourself. The Elantra GLS and the Civic 2012 EX were equal on cabin noise at different ends of the speedo. The Elantra from 0- 45 mph exhibited less road noise than the Civic. Keep in mind- NHSTA revised its crash test standards to be more in line with IIHS.ORG, where in which the 2011 Honda Civic does reasonably well in crash tests. Personally, I check both sites for ratings, but after years of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety having higher test standards, IIHS is whom I give more credibility rather than our federal government

Since there was no real changes between 2006 and 2011, I've very surprised. They did revamp their testing methods so I would suppose all makes were affected. Honda has the largest indoor crash test facility in the world and they have never failed to meet or exceed what the government results turn out to be. I had a 2006 Civic and I currently have a 2005 Accord. The Civic had a misdesigned rear suspension and that had to be replaced at 65000 miles. Honda agreed to pay half of that. OK, going back to the Honda site I have found that it is the same size (1.8 liter), has the same horsepower (140) and torque (128 lb-ft) the same configuration (SOHC i-VTEC) BUT the site states it has "many friction reducing and airflow improvements" so maybe not totally the same but...close enough! While you're making corrections, note that the 2012 Civic's powertrain can't be exactly like 2006-11, or the FE numbers wouldn't be any better than for 2011. But they are. So Honda must have tweaked the powertrain for 2012 even if the engine size, HP, and number of cogs in the tranny are the same.

No, the 2012 Civic IS a refreshed 2006-11 model in that is has the exact same drivetrain (engine and transmission, a 5 speed auto. at that as others such as the Elantra have moved on to a 6 speed) as the prior generation. turns out the dealership was lying to me on the phone and because when i came in they refused to sell it to me for that price so i left. i then went to livermore honda and after all was said and done i got it at Livermore Honda for 17,300 +TTL.

Regarding the software update for a 2009. 2009-2011 cars came from the factory with this upgrade already installed. Whatever they applied was an upgrade,but not THIS upgrade.
