I was reading somewhere that roughly 40% of the 2010 Fusion's sold so far are hybrids. I wonder how much was artificial front loaded demand due to the expiring tax credit and how much is ongoing elevated product demand (i.e. a hit product). I once had a Toyota that died and took weeks to get fixed. It happens to all car lines at some point. It is not unusual for a part to be defective from the factory, and since these cars are brand new, the techs have a lot more to learn, and things like this will happen, hence the wait a year before buying a brand new model. My new 2010 Fusion hybrid lasted 7 days and 500 miles before it died in the middle of traffic. Towed into the dealer 6 days ago but they say they cannot fix it because they cannot get parts! Ford cannot make a dent in the hybrid market this way. Ford customer support says that they will get back to me in "a few days" Maybe I made a mistake.

Some posting above have seemed to indicate there is a great deal of difference in how "clean" (less polluting) some new cars are compared to each other. I ordered my FFH on 2/23. I too have a VIN, and my dealer said the car is slated for production in the week of 4/13. Delivery is usually 2-4 weeks after build date. Pableau, Ford is saying that an order placed for the vehicle by 3/31 qualifies for the credit so long as that same vehicle is purchased. A bit of an apples-oranges comparison. You need to look at the cost of a 2010 V6 AWD Fusion v. the Hybrid. The Hybrid will still be more, but not as much as comparing an 09. I read that the batteries in the FFH will be 10 years, 150k miles. There have been serveral tested at over 300k miles without any issues.

gagrice, Good point. The Ford Escape Hybrid is the same vehicle as the Mercury Mariner Hybrid and Mazda Tribute version. I had thought that with a limit (supposedly Toyota tried to limit batteries going to Ford) of 25,000 battery packs per year, you would think there could be over 125,000 units out there by this time.

It is possible that they are counting Ford and Mazda separate. They share the same hybrid system. I was kind of surprised also. However they have had issues getting some parts. I am sure Toyota got preference if they were using a common battery supplier.

wvgasguy, The Escape Hybrid is in its 5th model year now (2009 model). A lot of field testing, really. The Fusion Hybrid is an evolution of that engineering knowledge, improving on it based on lessons learned.
