I thought this thread was supposed to be about the 2012 Ford Focus, but now it seems to have gone off track.
I wouldn't even consider a 2011 Mazda3; my 2009 Mazda3 is just fine thank you. That said, I would very much consider a 2012 SkyActiv-G or better still, a 2013 SkyActiv-D. The above said, considering how much less the 2011 Mazda3 costs versus the 2012 Focus (as close to apples to apples as one can get), you can buy a bunch of gas with the difference. I suspect on a cost ... Read More
The VW (Jetta) Sportwagen is an alternative at a similar price point. It is a real wagon, sleek and highly rated, though not with the fuel economy, nor quite as handsome and feature-laden as the 2012 Focus wagon. But if the 2012 Focus wagon is not offered here, the VW is probably the only alternative of similar price and class.
I too am saddened that Ford has no plans to release the 2012 wagon in the USA. I've owned Ford wagons for over 30 years. The 2012, based on pictures and videos I've seen, would definitely have been the next one I'd own. I really don't want to turn to the VW Jetta. One would think that with $4-plus a gallon gas, there would be renewed interest in these wonderful cars. ... Read More
I agree the 3/4 view is very similar. Along with MPG's and HP, the Focus beats it in interior and front end styling. Of course, the Elantra & Focus had something in common. People in this country generally have been ranking them at the bottom of the food chain -- the inferior compacts below the Civic & Jetta. Well, that's half right. Not a bad percentage for a hitter in baseball. The Focus hasn't been ranked up high for several years, as Ford let the US model languish while the Europeans got the Good ... Almost everyone knows, who has done any research on the stats behind the primary reason for vehicle crashes, is people not paying attention (even momentarily) to their surroundings when driving with the car in motion (surely 90 to 99% of the time if any speeds above 30 mph are the norm during your commute). Autoblog has another review, this time of a Titanium sedan: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/30/2012-ford-focus-titanium-review-road-test/ The review is pretty favorable, though they do mention the tight rear and the fact that the prominent center console seems to restrict front space. I'm about 5'6 also, so netranger's comment concerns me a little bit. Then again, I'm coming from a celica, which has a pretty cocoonish cockpit design as well, so maybe I wouldn't notice anyway.
The 2012 Ford Focus SEL at my dealer's showroom was a disappointment. Although the fit and finish were excellent, the driver/passenger area is too cramped. The driver's seat in this car was at maximum rearward position. The sales rep couldn't get into the driver's side rear seat without squirming his way in. He did eventually get in with some difficulty. After that gyration, his knees did fit in the hollowed out ... Read More

I think it depends on what you're watching. Sporting event seem to have a lot of the hamster commercials versus the Optima. Younger demographic for the sporting events has them spending their money on the hipster Soul versus the family sedan. Targeted marketing versus the shotgun approach.
I think Kia blew their early 2011 marketing budget on the Optima. I am seeing ads for it everywhere, including the Super Bowl. Optima is much more important for Kia than a Forte hatch--even if you and I prefer a Forte hatch.
The Forte is clearly Kia's entry into the compact segment. With the addition of the new Forte 5-door hatchback for the 2011 model year, it can now be had in three distinct body styles- 2-door coupe (Koup, that is), 4-door sedan or 5-door Hatchback.
