Written by: shipo on May 5, 2011 8:01:49 PM

I wouldn't even consider a 2011 Mazda3; my 2009 Mazda3 is just fine thank you. That said, I would very much consider a 2012 SkyActiv-G or better still, a 2013 SkyActiv-D. The above said, considering how much less the 2011 Mazda3 costs versus the 2012 Focus (as close to apples to apples as one can get), you can buy a bunch of gas with the difference. I suspect on a cost ... Read More

Did you happen to see a model without Ford Mytouch? I am concerned that the dash for non-Mytouch models will have yawning blank spaces for "non-features." I hate being reminded that I have a cheaper trim by blank buttons and ambiguous empty spots. #349 Fiesta vs the Focus by farout Apr 23, 2011 (3:34 pm) "Both dash 's looked a like." yawning blank spaces? a cheaper trim by blank buttons and ... Written by: backy on Apr 23, 2011 3:45:06 PM

My local dealer has 3 SEs (2 hatches, 1 sedan) on the ground so I went over to take a look. I sat in a dark blue hatch and the (gray) sedan, both automatics and listing for just under $21k. I didn't ask for a test drive because I'm not going to buy a car for at least a year... and they didn't offer a test drive. Likes: * Comfortable driving ... Read More

Of course, the Elantra & Focus had something in common. People in this country generally have been ranking them at the bottom of the food chain -- the inferior compacts below the Civic & Jetta. Well, that's half right. Not a bad percentage for a hitter in baseball. The Focus hasn't been ranked up high for several years, as Ford let the US model languish while the Europeans got the Good ... Autoblog has another review, this time of a Titanium sedan: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/30/2012-ford-focus-titanium-review-road-test/ The review is pretty favorable, though they do mention the tight rear and the fact that the prominent center console seems to restrict front space. I'm about 5'6 also, so netranger's comment concerns me a little bit. Then again, I'm coming from a celica, which has a pretty cocoonish cockpit design as well, so maybe I wouldn't notice anyway.

  • Re: 2012 Ford Focus transmissions [babbs3]

    Written by: tim156 on Apr 8, 2011 6:41:58 PM

The transmission in the new Focus is nothing like the POS 6 speed in the Fusion. I have a 2010 Fusion that I am trading in because of transmission and air in the cooling system concerns. The 2012 Focus has a 6 speed dual clutch dry transmission, the same trans that's in the 2011 Fiesta. Two internal gear sets divide the ratios in half, one odd gears, one even gears. One ... I think Kia blew their early 2011 marketing budget on the Optima. I am seeing ads for it everywhere, including the Super Bowl. Optima is much more important for Kia than a Forte hatch--even if you and I prefer a Forte hatch.

The Forte is clearly Kia's entry into the compact segment. With the addition of the new Forte 5-door hatchback for the 2011 model year, it can now be had in three distinct body styles- 2-door coupe (Koup, that is), 4-door sedan or 5-door Hatchback. The Forte is aimed squarely at the new Focus, Mazda3, Civic and Chevy Cruze! I've been surprised at how little the Forte 5-door has been publicized since ... Read More

The writer also felt the Focus' sport suspension was a tad hard.

just wonderful. Red is nice but that Goldfinger color is more what I want. I will hold out for what I want and ya know, when I look long and hard at the 2012 Ford Focus hatch or sedan, transmission doesn't matter. I'll buy their 6-spd. automatic "dual-clutch" DSG transmission with the little flicker on the gearknob to change "gears." I can say it doesn't matter because my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer ... Read More

Automobile magazine has an article in its March 2011 issue that is very appropriate for this discussion: a review of the 2012 Focus and 2011 Elantra. Now however, I find the SE is available with the "SE Winter Package" that has heated mirrors, I wonder if that's a late update to the web site. That's a start; a start big enough to possibly tip the balance. Unfortunately I really want ... Read More

Myself, I like an automatic tranny, but that "rocker switch" in the new Focus is bogus. Why not a gated shifter, or a slap shift, or paddle shifters? I think the new Explorer has the same thing, which to me is a major turnoff. Sans the rocker switch, the new Focus looks like an impressive car.

You'd think tire size information would be on the manufacturer's web site, right? =) I tried to find it on Ford's site also, but to no avail.
