One could argue that the midsize segment hits the sweet spot for luxury sedans. For proof, look no further than the Lexus GS 350. More desirable than an entry-level luxury sedan but more attainable than a luxury flagship, the GS offers an enticing mix of performance, comfort, luxury and prestige.

The GS 350 is the V6-powered version of Lexus' GS line (the GS 430 has the V8) and has been out for a few years now. This age is somewhat of a drawback if you're looking at a new GS, as there are some more recently redesigned midsize competitors that you might find more appealing. Yet the GS 350 remains a beautifully built car and easily fulfills the role of a midsize luxury sedan.

Current Lexus GS 350
The Lexus GS 350 comes with a.3.5-liter V6 that's rated for 303 horsepower and 274 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, and buyers have a choice of the standard rear-wheel-drive setup or an optional all-wheel-drive system.

Notable standard equipment on the Lexus GS 350 includes 17-inch wheels, xenon headlamps, a sunroof, keyless ignition/entry, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker sound system, Bluetooth and memory settings for the driver and front passenger. Major options include a Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system, a navigation system, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control and an adaptive suspension.

With the 3.5-liter V6, the Lexus GS is seriously quick, and most drivers will find its power reserves more than adequate in any situation. Upholding Lexus' reputation for finely crafted interiors, the GS 350's cabin surrounds occupants with supple leather and rich wood and aluminum trim. Average-size adults will fit comfortably, but taller passengers may desire a bit more headroom -- at least compared to other sedans in this class.

Used Lexus GS 350 Models
Although the GS 350 name dates to 2007, the third-generation GS sedan actually debuted for 2006 as the GS 300. With the exception of their engines, the GS 350 and 300 are identical.

The Lexus GS 350 hasn't changed much since its debut, though models from 2010 and onwards received USB/iPod connectivity and streaming Bluetooth audio as standard equipment.
