Edmunds.com Editors
My job is to help you buy the right car at the right price. As the editor in chief of Edmunds.com, I am responsible for the quality and direction of our editorial content. And I love it. It's fun, fulfilling work, but after 20 years as an automotive journalist, I know it's also a big responsibility. Edmunds.com helps empower millions of car buyers every month. Hopefully the Edmunds staff and I make the car purchase process a little easier for each and every one of them.
I've been driving other people's cars and writing about them since 1976, and even after all this time, every car tells me a different story. At Edmunds.com, we drive real cars that real people might want to own. As the executive editor of Edmunds.com, it's my responsibility to sort through all the vehicles that come on the market and find the ones that will matter to real people. And then we try to tell the story of each one in a way that will help you discover if it's the right car for you.
I've been covering in-car electronics for over two decades, as an editor for magazines, a freelance writer and even a published author — my book Car Audio for Dummies came out in 2008. I joined Edmunds.com that year to spearhead our coverage of the rapidly expanding car electronics and technology field, with the goal of helping our readers understand the latest developments in car tech, how it influences their purchase decisions and ownership experience and to make sure they get the most for their money.
"What kind of car should I buy?" I love answering this question, so it's definitely fortuitous that I work at Edmunds.com. After graduating college with a journalism degree, I got started in 1996 working for a variety of automotive magazines. I then joined Edmunds.com in 2000. Cars and writing are passions of mine, and I very much enjoy combining the two to provide information and opinion to help shoppers find the right car. At Edmunds.com, as senior automotive editor, my main job duty is to oversee our comprehensive new car reviews.
In 1996, I took an entry-level editorial position in the muscle car group at magazine publisher Petersen Publishing in Los Angeles. Back then I was a total car novice, but I listened and learned and worked my way up. Now I manage the test-drives at Edmunds.com, making sure we give our readers a thorough understanding of our experience in a particular example of a particular car to help them make a smart, informed purchase. I'm also the resident mom on staff, giving opinions on topics like fitting a child safety seat in a coupe.
I came to Edmunds.com in 2010 with a journalism background that includes work as a novelist, a daily newspaper reporter, a freelance writer for newspapers and magazines and an editor for both print and Web publications. I use that varied background every day at Edmunds as I work with the consumer advice team on stories dealing with car buying, financing, safety and maintenance. I also write for and edit the Edmunds Daily blog, where we give consumers all the news they need for a life on wheels.
As the senior consumer advice editor, I write articles about car buying and other aspects of car ownership. Before that I was a book author and newspaper reporter. In addition to authoring many of the Tips & Advice articles for Edmunds, I've created several profiles for the popular "Confessions" page. The greatest satisfaction I get from my job is explaining the fine art of car buying to readers in a way that helps them overcome obstacles and stick up for themselves.
I've been at Edmunds since 2007 and in the auto journalism business since 2005 when I interned during college at a car magazine in my hometown of Toronto. It's a job I'd wanted since I figured the logical career goal was one that melded my ability to write with my love of cars (it seemed more realistic than writing James Bond films). A journalism degree from Pepperdine University and a few years later, and I find myself living the dream writing Edmunds model reviews and test-drives, while also contributing to the Edmunds and Inside Line video team.
Born with 93 octane flowing through my veins, my passion for automobiles ranges from the classics of the '30s through the muscle cars of the '60s to the current crop of super sport sedans. In 1999, after years of advising friends and family members on which new cars they should consider, I landed my dream job — writing test-drives for Edmunds.com. My other duties include writing model reviews and the Used Car Corner on our Edmunds Daily blog.
As automotive content editor, I am responsible for our weekly Top 10 lists and report on the latest weekly vehicle recalls for the Edmunds Daily blog. I also write test-drives and the occasional model review. My career as an automotive journalist began in 2001 here at Edmunds.com. Buying a car can be overwhelming — it can sometimes feel as if there are a million decisions that need to be made. I enjoy being able to help people simplify this process and make smarter choices via my work here at Edmunds.
I've been working my dream job as an automotive journalist for only a few years now, but have been in the car magazine business for well over a decade as an art director. As an associate editor here at Edmunds.com, I primarily produce content that informs the consumer about a wide range of vehicles in the form of model reviews and test-drives. From time to time, I also get back to my roots by creating graphics and photography for Edmunds.
It's rare that a person gets to start a career at one of the best companies in their field. But after earning a degree in journalism from California State University, Northridge, I started at Edmunds.com as an intern. My hard work paid off and I was eventually hired on as a consumer advice associate. I've been here now for just over two years and my job is to keep our articles up to date, cover the news on the Edmunds Daily blog and use my five years of experience working at a car dealership to give readers the advice they need to find great deals and avoid getting ripped off.
