Strong in virtually every important area -- passenger comfort, cargo capacity and pleasant driving dynamics -- the Ford Flex is hard to beat. But although it took 1st place with 16.1 percent of your votes, it was by the slimmest of margins, as the funky, tall and value-packed box known as the Kia Soul took 2nd with 16.0 percent. Relatively small in their rearview mirrors with 12 percent was the Subaru Outback, whose standard all-wheel drive has made it popular among those in the snowbelts.

1. Ford Flex
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Ford Flex is a thoughtfully designed and cool-looking alternative to minivans and seven-passenger crossover SUVs. We think most families would be well served by its diverse abilities.2. Kia Soul
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Soul is the first Kia to appeal to one's emotions as well as more practical concerns like value, features, space and warranty. It is definitely worth a look. What Edmunds.com says:
The all-new 2010 Subaru Outback remains an outdoorsman's choice, offering all-weather traction and even more interior space than before. Those in less rugged climes will find it an appealing alternative to conventional wagons and crossovers. What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Audi A4 sedan is a slick-looking and smooth-driving sport sedan, and its Avant wagon variant is possibly slicker still. Just make sure you're onboard with the mandatory four-cylinder engine. What Edmunds.com says:
The stylish Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon is a hip alternative to not only other wagons, but the increasing number of compact luxury crossovers as well.6. Toyota Venza
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Toyota Venza blends the attributes of a crossover SUV with those of a wagon, resulting in a pleasantly useful form of family transportation.7. BMW 3 Series
What Edmunds.com says:
Even entering its fifth year of production, the 2010 BMW 3 Series remains the best entry-level luxury sedan you can buy.8. Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Volkswagen Jetta remains the only discount-price European sedan (and wagon) offered for the U.S. market. A large array of trim levels and powertrains further increases the Jetta's appeal.9. Scion xB
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Scion xB is a capable compact people mover and cargo hauler that packs a decent underhood punch. Fuel economy is lackluster, however, and the unconventional styling isn't for everyone. What Edmunds.com says:
If you like the Accord sedan but want more room and/or all-wheel drive, the 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour is worth a look. Otherwise, a more versatile crossover SUV will likely serve you better. What Edmunds.com says:
Though it only comes in turbocharged four-cylinder form, the 2010 Volkswagen Passat is a compelling proposition for those who prefer sophisticated road manners and an upscale cabin to V6 vigor.12. Volvo V70
What Edmunds.com says:
Wagons are often a more rational automotive choice for families than crossover SUVs, but the 2010 Volvo V70 makes us think twice. From fuel economy to handling, it doesn't offer any significant advantage. What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring proudly displays its European roots as a spacious and solidly constructed compact car with surprisingly sophisticated road manners.14. Volvo V50
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Volvo V50 is a stylish, spacious and fuel-efficient alternative to compact luxury crossovers. However, it's expensive, so finding a great deal is a must.15. Kia Rondo
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2009 Kia Rondo is an ultra-practical wagon with plenty of features, space, comfort and quality at a very affordable price. It's a hidden gem worthy of consideration. What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser was pulled from the ashes for one more year, but we think it should have been allowed to die in peace.17. Chevrolet HHR
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2010 Chevrolet HHR is a good choice for buyers looking for a compact wagon that's practical and distinctively styled. In SS trim, it's even sporty to drive.
