Here is what my wife and I got driving from San Jose, CA to Smithfield, NC. From there to Washington DC and then home. I-40 E to NC and then I-80 W back home. 28.12 (~70 MPH) 29.18 (~70 MPH) 29.65 (~70 MPH) 29.28 (~70 MPH) 30.27 (~70 MPH) 26.78 (~70-75 MPH) 27.89 (~70 MPH) 28.80 (~70 MPH) 23.63 (50% in town & HWY) 23.59 (50% in town & HWY) 23.59 (50% in town & HWY) 28.06 (~65 MPH) 23.96 (50% in town & HWY) 26.61 (89 Octane with 10% ehtanol? I am not sure on how much ethanol. I nearly ran out of gas on that tank!) 27.07 (~65 MPH) 25.04 (~65 MPH) 29.92 (~65 MPH) 26.82 (~65 MPH) 31.41 (going down some mountains most of the time) 30.65 (going down hill) 28.47 (~65 MPH) Not too shabby I have to say. I'll try to drive 65 MPH next long driving trip to save money and gas. :) Edit: My wife and I own a 4 cylinder 2008 Rav4 4WD. We'll be trading it in for a 2008 V6 4WD or a 2009 V6 4WD sometime soon.
My wife and I are going on a cross country road trip from here in San Jose to Smithfield, NC. Then from there to Washington DC, then home. So it'll be more than 6k miles in our 2008 Rav4 w/ 4WD from July 6th-August 2nd. :)
I am a third owner of a 2000 VW Passat and ever since I have owned the car, i have had nothing but issues. I recently (2 months ago) have replaced the Turbo in the car (1.8) ~$2000.00 later, my new and honest mechanic, who openly told me, get rid of the car, because its only going to give you more trouble. What I dont understand is VWOA is responsible for these issues, and they should take full responsiblity that they made a hunk of junk. The guy who sold it to me totally stuck it to me, he new i was desparate for a car, and not knowing because im a broad he took total advantage of the situation ~ To all the people who are even looking at the VW Passat turbo especially, dont buy it, you will be in for a costly ride. My car also does something funky in the morning ~ if the temperture is above 35 degrees, when starting it starts doing what i call the engine dance, the check engine light blinks and then after for about 2 minutes, it stops blinking and the engine stops making noises like its going to blow up. If the tempature is below 35 degrees, it doesnt do it at all, just the stupid "Emissions workshop" light goes on after i take off ~ anyone ever heard of this? What a PIECE OF CRAP, VW of America, go back to Germany, I hate you! Oh, and a FYI: I am the victim of the oil sludge issues that are happening with these cars, my mechanic cleaned out my car for hours ~ If you live in RI and you need a excellent mechanic, A & W Tire in Smithfield, John the owner is a GREAT GUY and very very honest!
Greenpea, I leased my Altima from Nissan of Smithfield, RI but was not impressed with their service dept, so i'm looking to do buisness elsewhere. What dealership do you work for, I've heard good things abouth the one in Norwood. I'm looking to upgrade to another altima with more options. I'll probably buy/lease to buy. Any pointers? Thanks for the response. Mike
Dock fees from Anchor, No Smithfield RI $95. My other option is Somerset, Somerset MA. Another dealer, Clay in Norwood, MA quoted me $28300 & said he would beat everyone by $300. However, I have had excellent service from Somerset & would just as soon buy from them. They are not too far away & have been very helpful (considering I never bought my 05 Outback from them. Purchased it from a dealer in Pawtucket, RI, Capitol who went out of business shortly after I purchased the vehicle. So much for my one year of free oil changes! Just concerned about the darn gas mileage & do I really need to, and/or will gas mileage or performance suffer if I use 91 or 89. I travel around 32,500 miles per year & probably average just about 25 mpg in Outback. That's 1300 gallons say at $290 = $3770 per year. If I average 20 mpg in Tribeca, that's 1625 gallons, say at $3.10 that's $5040. If I made to with 91 octane, say at $3.00 that's $4875 still $1000 per year additional. Is the Tribeca worth it??? If gas is $4 per gallon, that's another $1600 per year. Maybe I should get a Prius???
