Re: one job makes seven more [imidazol97] by circlew on Tue May 10 15:17:35 PDT 2011

Great news! New jobs at GM first go to the pool of laid-off U.S. workers. The UAW and GM periodically update that number and this afternoon said it numbers about 1,350. UAW Vice President Joe Ashton said all those workers would be back to work by September, “if not sooner.” So GM is expected to make new hires for at least some of the 4,000 jobs announced today. New hires would make about $14 an hour, roughly half of what their first-tier UAW counterparts make. In Toledo, new equipment and workers will start coming to the plant this year, plant manager Joe Choate said. The majority of the 250 positions will be for new workers coming in to the plant, although possibly as transfers or laid-off employees coming back to work, he said. Including the 4,000 new jobs, GM has promised to add or retain about 13,000 jobs since its 2009 bankruptcy. The hiring has come along with profitability: GM last week posted its fifth-straight quarterly profit. Looks like they are on a new trend that is finally paying off. The UAW is still hoping GM will agree to add more jobs during contract negotiations this summer, Ashton said. In particular, he said, he’s still hoping GM will agree to reopen the assembly plants in Spring Hill, Tenn., and Janesville, Wis., and keep a compact truck plant in Shreveport, La., from closing. “We’re not looking to make sacrifices,” Ashton said. “We’ve made them." I will reserve any negative comment. Hopefully the greed lesson has been learned from repeated history for the 10,000th time. Regards, OW

Re: 2004 Freelander coolant problems common? [allan21] by justwill on Thu Jul 29 01:24:12 PDT 2010

I've got my FREELOADER still, makes a good dry storage place (some what like a building on wheels you can pull around the yard) with a tarp over it, just in case the sun roof leaks. Just a reminder to me every time I go by it to NEVER BUY A LAND ROVER PRODUCT AGAIN. Plus if there ever is a recall or class action I have it as it went out with no modification or changes with 39000 miles on it. Was parked when water found in oil and then read this forum, said screw it accepted the loss after dealership in Shreveport was NO HELP (60 miles away). I would love to park it across from the dealer ship with a big sign on it to give them some real advertising they need. "Land Rover Freelander nothing 3 pounds of high explosive wouldn't cure"

Re: Colorado/Canyon parts shortage! [ateixeira] by tlong on Thu Mar 17 12:35:32 PDT 2011

AN Alert: General Motors will suspend production at its Shreveport, La., assembly plant starting Monday because of a parts shortage stemming from the earthquake in Japan. The plant makes the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact pickups I guess we'll just have to buy Accords and Camrys - you know, the cars with the highest American content!

What part is U.S.-based? by circlew on Thu Mar 17 12:34:10 PDT 2011

Lack of parts forces GM to halt pickup production Lack of parts from Japan forces General Motors to halt production at US pickup plant ap DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Co. says a lack of parts from Japan is forcing the company.to halt production at its pickup assembly plant in Shreveport, La., next week. It's the first time a U.S.-based automaker has slowed production in North America because of disruptions in parts shipments after last week's earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Toyota Motor Co. and Subaru have already slowed production at their North American plants to conserve stockpiles of parts. GM's other North American plants haven't been affected so far. GM won't say which parts are involved. The company says it will resume production as soon as possible. GM employs 800 factory workers in Shreveport, which makes the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado small pickups. We're all connected. :) Regards, OW
