Re: 2002 Elantra GT Warranty Service Experience [my2002gt] by my2002gt on Mon Jul 07 07:11:31 PDT 2008

Just a quick follow-up on my parking brake repair experience. It took two trips to the Riverton Suzuki/Hyundai Dealership. The first time they replaced brake cables (both sides) but they neglected to test the repair while the car was still on the rack 'cuz with the rear wheels off the ground and the parking brake fully applied the passenger side still spun freely. Second time in they did replace the passenger side caliper. Both cables and the new caliper were covered completely under the 4B extended warranty I purchased. Now I must say these folks were MUCH easier to deal with and INFINITELY more courteous and trustworthy than the folks I dealt with at Intermountain Hyundai. So, if you're ever in the Salt Lake Valley and in need of service, stay away from Intermountain. Riverton Hyundai is a bit more of a drive for me but well worth it. :)

You Sound Like A GREAT Dealer, Jeff by ricwhite on Thu Jul 03 10:14:45 PDT 2008

Jeff, I appreciate the great information you offer. You sound like a great dealership to work with. You mentioned that dealerships have the option to implement advertised lease deals, etc. and that it shouldnt be hard to find one that will. However, I found it very difficult and time consuming here in Utah. Let me be very specific so people can avoid my awful experience and let me also say, that I DID find a wonderful Hyundai dealership that was VERY responsive and GREAT to work with. But first my horror experiences. 1) Westland Hyundai in Ogden, Utah. AVOID. After initially telling me they certainly will give me the lease deal, they didnt. They actually ADDED on the $1000 rebate to the cap cost and modified numbers at the end to bring an advertised lease of $299 up to about $550 per month. They told me that no dealership could do that lease deal because they would lose money. I knew that wasnt true because I read LOTS of personal accounts of the lease deal right here on these forums. I even had printouts from specific experiences. When I told them and showed them that, they told me that all of them were lying and they asked me to leave and try elsewhere. They guaranteed I wouldnt find the Azera for under $500 on the 27 month lease. 2) Riverton Hyundai Riverton, Utah. AVOID. They are about 45 minutes away. I called them and talked directly to the person in charge of leases. I brought up the exact lease deal as specified in on the Hyundai site - $299/month. He said it would be no problem. I made an appointment to meet the next day. I drove to the address in the phone book which led me to a huge open field. I had to call them again to get the CORRECT address (and they had NO IDEA their address was incorrect in the phone book so I pointed it out in the phone book on the counter). After talking and presenting the lease terms from my printouts, they left me for an unusually long time. When they came back, they told me that they couldnt get the lease software to work. They said the lease manager was gone. (Thats the one I MADE THE APPOINTMENT WITH). They said they would have him call me. I drove back home. He called me THREE DAYS LATER and I was told the best lease on the Azera was around $390 a month. 3) Ken Garff Hyundai Salt Lake City, Utah . AVOID. Called and made an appointment. Drove there. Within minutes of talking to them I knew something was wrong. I was negotiating the cap cost, but their numbers were off. The invoice pricing on the Azera (which they showed me in print-out) was about $800 higher than all of the literature, online auto sites, and all of the other Hyundai dealerships I visited. I told them was the correct invoice and retail pricing was and showed them in several papers that I brought. They told me they were all wrong. I asked about the other dealerships and they told me they were lying. Then it got worse from there. They had weird added fees. For example, they had a Dealer Name Fee of $350. When I asked them what that was, I was told it was a mandatory fee for the privilege of posting Ken Garff on the building and vehicles. It was at this point, that I knew this was a lost cause and I left. 4) Murdock Hyundai Orem, Utah. EXCELLENT. Usually I stop after three strikes, but I really wanted to lease an Azera. So, I called Murdock Hyundai and made an appointment. It was a 1.5 hour drive. When I mentioned the lease deal, I was told absolutely. I didnt even have to negotiate. $299 a month, plus taxes. They also had the color I wanted. Done within an hour. Now THATS how its done. Perfect. Just out of spite, I emailed Westland Hyundai in Ogden and reminded the sales manager that he guaranteed I couldnt find an Azera lease for under $500. I told him I just lease it for $299 plus tax at Murdock Hyundai in Orem, Utah. I never got a response, obviously. Idiots. At least I know where to go for my Hyundai vehicles, but as you can see, it was NOT easy to find one. Thats why I was concerned about selling the Genesis at regular Hyundai dealerships. I cant even imagine getting a Genesis at any of those dealerships that I had awful experiences with trying to lease an Azera. And I know they havent changed much because I get my service at Westland Hyundai in Ogden where I had the awful experience. (At least their service department is good). But the last time I was in for service, I waited in the new car lobby. The secretary was on the phone yelling to someone about divorce papers. The old man sales guy was in his office sitting in his chair doing nothing. Another one was sitting on the couch next to me drinking coffee and laughing at the show on the television. I never saw the sales manager. I was there for almost an hour and they didnt move for the WHOLE HOUR. What a job! I thought they could be researching or reading up on their vehicles or wiping off the dust or taking some for a spin to get better familiar with, but no. And they will be selling the Genesis? LOL

road trips by roughneck on Sun Feb 19 20:01:11 PST 2006

I have driven the both on 12hour+ road trips(04 chevy and 05 dodge) and like the chevy better. Both are good trucks, but the comfort in the chevy is much better than the dodge. Dodge needs to seriously upgrade the auto tranny and ride. It is ancient compared to the allison. Only 4 gears and shifts are a lot more noticeable. To me the cummins was still louder than the duramax and performance actually felt about the same. I found that hard to believe with such a power difference, but by the seat of the pants it felt the same.

My Experiences with Three Dealers by ricwhite on Sat Mar 04 08:50:29 PST 2006

Car Sought: Hyundai Azera Limited w/Ultimate package. Results: Dealer #1 - Westland Hyundai - Ogden, Utah - Negotiated Base price to $27,900 (MSRP 30,075). But refused to implement the lease deal as advertised by Hyundai and tacked on thousands of dollars in extra fees. The negotiated price was not bad, but they didn't know how to implemented financing options and I left quite sour. (Actually was TOLD to leave). Dealer #2 - Riverton Hyundai - Riverton, Utah - Would not negotiate below $28,700 (MSRP 30,075) They WERE able to offer some financing options such as the lease deal, but the negotiated price was too high for me. They mentioned they were the largest Hyundai dealership in the state of Utah, yet had only two Azera Ltd Ult in stock and they were unwilling to part with them for less. Dealer #3 - Ken Garff Hyundai - Salt Lake City, Utah - Refused to negotiate below $29,000 (MSRP 30075) They were able to implement financing options such as the lease program, but their invoice figures were high (not correct) and they added such ridiculous things as a "dealer name fee" ($350 for the privilege of putting "Ken Garff"'s name on the building). Price was way too high. Left Observations: * I knew more about the Azera than the Hyundai dealer sales people. * All refused to honor the advertised Hyundai lease deal on the Azera. * Most outright lied about invoice price and holdbacks and other financial information * Several added in "hidden" fees which they were very reluctant to disclose. * Many were rude, telling me to leave or to get a plane ticket and fly to a different city. * Many were completely incompetent and couldn't even work the lease software. Personally, I was not impressed at all with the Hyundai dealers. Not only were they often dishonest about prices and fees, they didn't try AT ALL to keep me as a customer . . . and I had the checkbook in my back pocket READY to buy an Azera. I was READY to offer them $800 over invoice PLUS their $883 Holdback, and I was told to take a hike. Congratulations to those that actually found a decent dealer that was honest and knew what they were doing. For the rest of you . . . good luck!

My February 2006 Lease Experiences by ricwhite on Sat Mar 04 08:27:12 PST 2006

(Reposted from the main Azera site) Car Sought: Hyundai Azera Limited w/Ultimate package Program: February 2006 Lease deal ($299 mo / 27 months + ultimate package). $2925 down / $595 acquisition fee / 53% residual / .00119 (2.86%) money factor. Results: None of the dealers would agree to the $299 per month for 27 month lease deal on an Azera Limited (without Ultimate pkg) as advertised by Hyundai. The results of what they WOULD do on a lease for an Azera Limited with the addition of the ultimate package is described below. Dealer #1 - Westland Hyundai - Ogden, Utah - Negotiated Base Cap Cost to $27,900 (MSRP 30,075). But refused to implement the lease deal as advertised and tacked on thousands of dollars in extra fees. Result: best lease price: $474 per month + taxes. STRIKE ONE Dealer #2 - Riverton Hyundai - Riverton, Utah - Would not negotiate below $28,700 (MSRP 30,075) Implemented the lease deal. Result: Best lease price $400 per month + taxes. STRIKE TWO Dealer #3 - Ken Garff Hyundai - Salt Lake City, Utah - Refused to negotiate below $29,000 (MSRP 30075) Implemented the lease deal. Result: Best lease price $422 per month + taxes. STRIKE THREE Observations: * I knew more about the Azera than the Hyundai dealer sales people. Since the "lease deal" (that no dealer would fully do anyway) is over in a few days, it will make the Azera completely "unleasable" With it's very low residual, a lease on a unsubsidized Azera Ltd. Ult approaches $600/ month. Personally, I am very unimpressed with Hyundai on the corporate and dealer level which is probably one of the reasons it has such a "trashy" image and is laughed at. My experiences have done NOTHING to change that image. Until Hyundai can pick themselves out of the garbage, buyers such as myself will be drawn to more "upper-class" brands such as Acura that at least know what they are doing. Maybe down the road Hyundai will get their act together. It might take a while, however, from what I have experienced. Congratulations to those that actually found a decent dealer that was honest and knew what they were doing. For the rest of you . . . good luck!
