My parents recently inherited a car from my grandmother. They've decided to keep it and sell their 2007 Ford Explorer....more accurately, they've asked me to sell the Explorer for them! :P The Edmunds TMV and KBB Private Party values are very similar and they're actually a little higher than expected!? With options and mileage factored in, the Edmunds TMV is $16,125 (CLEAN condition) and KBB Private Party is $16,615 (GOOD condition). The vehicle has a lot of miles for its age (just hit 110,000), but both of those appraisals account for the excessive mileage. Edmunds deducted $2,090 and KBB deducted just over $5,000, so the numbers were almost $4000 apart if the car had average mileage. I'm probably over-thinking this, but I expected more of a hit than $2090 on the Edmunds calcuation... BTW, it's a 2007 Explorer Eddie Bauer, 2WD, 4.0L V6, Dark Cherry Metallic/Pueblo Gold two-tone w/ Camel Leather, 110k miles, VERY GOOD condition inside and out, serviced religiously (with records) and spotless vehicle history record. Options- Power, heated front seats & power adjustable pedals w/ memory; Audiophile 6-CD stereo; Dual-zone Auto AC; Rear A/C w/ aux. controls; Power Moonroof; Power Fold-flat 50/50 3rd Row seat and Rear Parking Sensors. Is $16,500 a realistic asking price....or should I drop it just under the $16k mark ($15,950 or so)? I'll be happy with anything over $15k (that's the least I'll take).... Any input is appreciated!
Question for Michael: when you replace this one, would you get another Saturn? You've been a Saturn guy to the core, but I'm curious if the uncertainty around the brand will make you choose differently next time... If I absolutely had to buy a new car in the next 72 hours, I would probably not get another Saturn. They just don't make anything that really excites me: Astra: like the looks, but it seems underpowered and doesn't have all the features that I really want (no aux jack for the stereo - are you kidding me?) Aura: not really convinced that I want a 4-door sedan again Sky: love it - especially the Redline - but don't really fit - my eyes are the exact same height as the top of the windshield VUE: already have one (2008 XR V6 AWD) Outlook: too big It does make me a bit sad, though .. my experiences with my local dealer, from both a sales and service perspective, have been nothing but superb. The dealer group they are affiliated with owns, I believe, 5 Saturn dealerships - 2 in Denver, 2 in Co. Springs and 1 in Pueblo. I am watching very carefully how GM deals with Saturn. I know that a "task force" that includes Saturn executives and dealers is looking into options. The nationwide dealer network is about 400 strong and, when you think about it, Saturn doesn't really sell anything that is unique to the brand - everything is either a rebadged GM or Opel offering. The idea of a "Saturn Distribution Company" makes sense, where they would partner with a manufacturer and simply use the dealer network to sell someone else's goods. Fiat comes to mind, if they were to wise up and ditch the pathetic relationship they have with Chrysler. No, if I had to buy something within 72 hours, my top choices would be (in no particular order): 1) Honda Fit Sport 2) Pontiac Vibe GT 3) Used Chevrolet Impala SS (I know, a sedan, but 303HP does have a certain allure) 4) Used Mustang GT 5) CPO 3-series coupe (if I could find one with the right equipment at the right price) 6) Used Sebring convertible Hopefully, I can get another couple of years out of the L300 .. it's not that she's become downtrodden, just a bit rough around the edges. I'm afraid that it's going to need some serious $$$ invested into it, but as long as it's less than a car payment for 4-5 years, it makes sense to do so. What needs to be done: 1) left rear power door lock doesn't work on the first try 2) power seats only move fore and aft (and maybe recline) 3) intermittent warning light from the dash - something transmission related 4) shocks are starting to make noise over speed bumps 5) burned out left fog light
I had my tranny rebuilt at aamco in arizona. But I am having a small but annoying problem. When i am driving over bumpy roads at highwat speed the rpm's jump 300-400 rpm occasionally. I know the wheels aren't leaving the groundto cause this. I can hear it slip. Is this a tranny problem or is there another culprit? My truck is at aamco in pueblo colorado and they say there's no codes and can't find the problem.
High fuel prices worried everyone early this year and 6 to 8 dollar gas was predicted by every talking head you watched on TV. Like everyone else I was more worried by the falling housing market and how high fuel prices would effect everything else I bought. I had more cars than I needed so I sold off all but my GMC 2500 and my old Pontiac 4 banger. I put my mountain home up for sale and moved to the desert where our place is paid for. The good part was my house was priced right and it sold quickly. I didn't make a killing on it but I could pay every thing I owed money on off. Still there was the price of gas. Then someone took offense to my GMC and set it on fire destroying my truck and killing my dog. Not a happy day. Because of the fuel prices I thought about getting something small like and Edge or even a Outback. But I wanted to travel and I wanted to have a travel trailer so I compromised and got a Tahoe. Used but with low miles and because of the fuel prices it was a very good deal. I decided to get a bicycle for doing light errands around town and ended up joining a bicycle club. I am now losing weight and my doctor is happier than he has been in 15 years. I don't use the Tahoe much unless we are taking an trip out of the state so my fuel useage has dropped by maybe 50 to 60 percent. The Pontiac only get about 25 to26 MPG but it only get gas once every three weeks. we now save up for vacations and plan how much we think we will spend and make sure we have the cash in the bank to take the trip. We decide to take another trip to Colorado this October, I am posting from the camp site as I type. We left California paying $3.58 a gallon. Got hit with a higher price in Needles a bit over $4.00. I had budgeted for $4,00 a gallon. Arizona was $3.48. New Mexico was $3.38. And as we got to Pueblo Colorado a Pilot station was selling gas for $2.99. The stock market may be taking a dive but oil is dropping to less than 90 bucks a barrel. I was thrilled. In Colorado Springs gas at a Chevron on Monday was $3.11 and in Canyon City on Tuesday it was $3.07. If this continues I will have spent far less on gas and bought far more in souveneres. I plan on spending the day at the Garden Of the Gods today and who know were we will go tomorrow. So the good news is my vacation and my choices haven't hurt me as much as I thought and I over reacted. The other good news is the prices of some of these little econo boxes should drop. The bad news is I still haven't found a small EV for around town, I have been looking for a used GEM I can get a deal on so I can pay cash. The Ugly news is the economy is a mess and those of us who took time to protect ourselves will have to bail out those who didn't. But that is life and I would still have done pretty much what I did so why complain?
Forgot to mention, when we pulled off of highway 25 onto 50 to get to my sons place in Colorado Springs we passed a station in Pueblo that had gas at $2.99. It may not last but believe me it was good to be on a vacation with the gas prices this week. My fuel bill will be about half of what it was last June-July.
