Problem solved: sort of... the bulk of the problems on my van (160+K now) were resolved with replacing the catalytic converter. It made perfect sense, after a fasion... my Van would run just fine for about 20 to 30 minutes, then get progressively worse at stalling and shutting off. Kept getting erroneous EGR codes (clear them and it would go away for a few weeks then reappear)... and the EGR valve was "new" a year ago... nonetheless, after replacing the CAT...everything has been fine, until last saturday when I sold the van for MPG reasons... I just can't pay $4 a gallon and drive a 15 year old van that got 22mpg on the highway (3.3l shorty caravan). @ DAWZIN:here's your fix! remove the instrument cluster. Once removed, the entire circuit board on the back is made of flexible mylar. there are points (pins) that are soldered to this circuit. look closely at them, you will see more than one that has fractured solder connections. Re-solder these, or just resolder them all and the problem will go away. If you are not knowledgable about soldering static sensitive devices and practices, find someone who is. These pins connecto to other components in the cluster that can be damaged by excessive heat or static electricity. So, be careful with what you do. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of your Cluster or I could point it out in seconds, but it should be easy to find, or just re-solder/re-work the whole ribbon circuit and you'll be good to go indefinitely. While the cluster is out, you can also replace those pesky instrumane panel lights, maybe spend a few bucks and just replace them or they'll go bad a week later (murphy's law). Good luck.
i am having the same problem with my 2004 grand caravan with the exact problems as post 179. can any one tell me were in the dash to start looking for the cracked pin. please help i am in a real bind. thanks
I wonder what that Crestliner, in that condition, would be worth today? So, I take it Chevys were considered cooler in your town, in the early '50s. The few Chevys that were modified with split manifolds sounded neat. One guy in my town in WI had a '51 Plymouth with a split manifold, milled head, and other mods he wouldn't disclose, making it pretty quick for its day. He won quite a few bets against Fords and Chevys.
"So, with winter tires for 4 years, would you calculate that the original summer tires have had over or under 40K of usage?" (automomous) With the changeover each fall and spring I really didn't keep track, but if I had to guess I would say the original Goodyears didn't quite make 30,000. I happened to have those same tires on a previous vehicle that I owned (an Infiniti FX45) and I would guess they only lasted around 30,000 miles on that one also.
Our 2007 Mazda 3 has been driven almost entirely by our 20 year-old daughter, ever since she got her license the day after she turned 16. In terms of miles driven, I would guess overall it's seen about 70% highway, 20% suburban (35-45-ish) and 10% city (30 and under, w/stop and go). With the odometer at just under 50,000 miles we are just on to our second set of tires, but I have put winter tires on the vehicle each season, from about Dec. 1 to March 15. As far as our daughter's driving style goes, we can only hope it's not TOO aggressive! ;) And she better not be driving and texting at the same time, like we constantly warn her about!!!
