Hi Kathy, thanks for the ideas on other things to do in the Sandusky area. One of my friends that I make this Cedar Point pilgrimage with is from Michigan originally, and when I mentioned "Put In Bay", first thing he said was "Party Central"...so I guess it has a reputation! The drive thru Safari sounds interesting, too. When I was a little kid, my Mom took us through one of those in Florida. I was only 5 or 6, so I don't remember much of it, though. This time around though, we're not going to have much time to do anything other than the amusement parks. We're arriving at Cedar Point on a Saturday afternooon/evening (depending on how early we get up and how fast we drive!). Staying there thru Sunday, and then on Monday, driving down to Kings Island near Cincinatti. We'll be at King's Island Monday afternoon, Tuesday, and then Wedneday, driving back home to the DC area. I'll definitely keep those areas in mind for 2012, though! I have a feeling that Kings Island is going to seem kinda tame compared to Cedar Point, but I at least want to experience it. Maybe in 2012, I can lobby for us to do a little mix and match between Cedar Point and other local attractions.
Isn't that the way you guys in Joisey pronounce it? Awww, good night Nuyse, Joisey. EVERYBODY hates Joisey! But somebody's gotta live there! Sorry, had to throw an Archie Bunker reference in there! :P I had a good friend who lived in Jersey, near Asbury Park. For all the ragging that Jersey gets, I gotta say, I didn't see it. Dear, sweet people, no skylines filled with refineries, etc. And I say "had" because he recently passed away from cancer, at the way-to-young age of 44. Hell, I have cars that are older than that! It just ain't right.
Even as a little kid, I was a big car fan, so I didn't like the Vega. But, as an adult looking back, I appreciate what could have been, just a bit more. It really was a good looking car, with its baby Camaro looks. Definitely a lot better looking than the Pinto and Gremlin, and anything the imports were offering at the time. Well, okay, the old Datsun 240/260/280Z were great looking cars, but they were also a LOT more expensive. And, call me weird, but I always thought the Pontiac Astre clone was a good looking little car.
Have you ever tried looking out the back windows of a '63 Vette? Bad enough with the one piece!
I swear, Ford has the worst luck with fuel tanks, it seems. Once upon a time, just about every car they built had something called a "drop in" gas tank, where the upper part of the tank doubled as the trunk floor. It saved a few seconds of time on the assembly line, and probably a few cents per car as well, compared to a tank that was strapped underneath the trunk floor, like most of them in those days. But it didn't take much of a rear-end collision to make them leak. It was worse in the small cars like the Falcons and Mustangs, but all cars, through the midsized, fullsized, and even the big luxury Lincolns had them. Then, there was that barbeque that seats four, the Pinto. Then, I remember the Ford Explorer getting the nickname "Exploder". And I'm sure there's a few other examples I'm missing. And now, they're having trouble keeping the gas tanks strapped under their trucks! Maybe they need to start subcontracting out for fuel tanks! :P
