Camden is crazy except for some carefully selected places along the waterfront. If you go by the aquarium all is well. Same thing for whatever they call what opened as the Tweeter Center. Concert place that's been through a few corporate names. There is also some high priced upper scale housing that I would guess you have to go through armed guards to get into. If you are out on the streets during the day it is a ghost town. I can't remember seeing another person not in a car except very near the above-mentioned places. In that respect it's way worse than Newark which at least has a solid center with actual operating businesses.

Re: another topic [ladywclass] by kcram on Sun Feb 06 13:51:03 PST 2011

I was a public schooler, but had the advantage of Mom also being an educator in the school system (speech/language therapist). Mom was on a committee with my 10th grade English teacher who wanted me to have her again in 11th grade. Unknown to me until after I had signed for all my 11th grade classes, they devised a plan to "convince" me to take the course. So on the first day of 11th grade, the teacher had everyone introduce themselves and say something about why they chose the course. When it came to my turn, I pointed at the teacher and said "that woman railroaded me into taking this class." Naturally, the other students looked at me in shock - how could I make such an accusation - then they all turned to the teacher at her desk... and she sat there with a big Cheshire Cat smile and nodded. A few of my aunts also taught in public schools - among many, Mom's middle sister taught 3rd grade for over 30 years, and Dad's sister-in-law is still teaching high school science at age 72... in the Newark NJ public school system. I also have a number of friends from my hometown who are public school teachers (2 are teaching at our alma mater high school). kcram - Pickups/Wagons Host

Re: 2011 Touring price quote [nobo] by audreym on Fri Jan 21 16:29:47 PST 2011

I agree, $1,500 over invoice for something relatively local and in stock with no games is reasonable. Many dealers are playing games on the Tourings also and taking deposits for cars they can't get. I hope gray interior is ok with you, the Black / Truffle is hard to find. I had gotten 1 or 2 quotes for $1,000 over - Lebanon PA was one of them. I think Conecelli was the other. (Unfortunately neither had the color I wanted) Sussman had $1500 over, as well as Martin in Newark DE - which I had a great experience with. Use the Edmunds inventory tool to find who has what you are looking for and get quotes from the internet forms on dealer sites and also try zag.com - use the Drive Your Dream section if you don't have any of the other memberships. Good luck!

Touring - NE Region by audreym on Tue Jan 11 10:01:25 PST 2011

After tiring of chasing incredible deals in NJ, the idea of paying full MSRP in PA, being jerked around, and being disappointed that no dealer could locate a Touring Elite in my color choice (Dark Cherry Pearl) I decided to go with the Touring model. I lucked out yesterday and located the only Cherry Touring currently in the region (MD, DE, NJ, PA) - Martin Honda had one sitting on the lot. They quoted me $1,500 over invoice & $492 for the roof rack / crossbars - while not a steal, I felt it was fair, especially since there seem to be few of this color available. With 2 phone calls and a few back & forth emails everything was settled in a few hours. Numbers were emailed to me, itemized - without a hassle about putting it in writing. There were no "one liners" or pressure involved - a straight up honest transaction. There were no dealer accessories installed on the car, and they did not pressure me one bit on any of the "extras". When I showed the finance manager the quote from Bernardi for the HondaCare he came within $15 for the same plan - so I did get it from them. They even let me pay for the roof rack/rails separate from the car so I could take advantage of Delaware's "tax-free shopping". If anyone stumbles on a vehicle they have been looking for at Martin Honda of Newark, DE then I would go for it and know that you will have a relaxed purchase experience.

Re: Recent highway MPG [jebutler848] by hockessin on Mon Dec 27 19:08:37 PST 2010

I bought an AWD 2011 Acadia in the summer in Newark, DE. The salesperson told me to expect 16 - 24 MPG. On average, I get 13 -14 MPG, whether city or highway. After 3 months of driving, I called the GMC service department to see if there was a problem with my car and they told me that 13-14 MPG is typical. I'm very upset!!! I would have never bought the Acadia if I would have know it was a 13-14MPG SUV. I will never buy a GMC again. The car is nice, but overall I'm dissatisfied. The horrible gas mileage makes the smaller issues seem worse (there are quite a few). For a $40K+ car, I was expecting much more. Stay away from the Acadia and GMC manufactured autos.
