test drive extravaganza by qbrozen on Tue May 10 10:29:09 PDT 2011

Ohhh... this could be interesting. I was just invited to the "Porsche World Roadshow" where I'll be driving nearly 3 hours up to Monticello NY to participate in a performance driving session on the track up there in the 911, cayman, boxster, panamera, and cheyenne, followed by an optional half hour on-road test drive of the car of my choice (I chose the base Panamera). Supposedly an exclusive event and you need a passcode to register. Space is limited, blah, blah, blah. Anyone else get this? Came in my email this morn. At first, the code didn't work, so I called Porsche, they said they've been experiencing problems, and they fixed it. I'm now registered for the 9:30am session on 6/11.

Meds affecting driving at medical facility by euphonium on Wed Mar 09 10:49:41 PST 2011

The driver was attempting to leave the Kaiser parking lot after a medical appointment around 5:30 p.m. when he apparently confused the gas pedal for the brake, said Longview Police Officer Chuck Davis. Davis estimated Gilliam was going faster than 50 mph northbound through the lot when his Chevrolet HHR wagon struck a curb near the intersection of Hudson Street and Seventh Avenue. The car then hit a three-foot-high dirt berm, which sent it further airborne as it ripped through the 8-by-2-foot aluminum and plexiglass sign, Davis said. Momentum and trajectory sent the car sailing over Hudson Street before the vehicle finally came to rest in front of the Monticello Park Senior Living facility, Davis said. "There's a very good likelihood he almost entirely cleared Hudson," Davis said.

Re: 2001 Grand Marquis [whitpg22] by monticellorob on Sun Feb 07 18:26:21 PST 2010

I just bought a '92 GM with a manufacture date of 11/91 from my neighbor. The car only has 54,000 miles on it. The car shifts fine for gears 1-3 but the overdrive went out in it some time ago. The lady who had it was elderly and literally drove it only one mile each way to church and 3 miles each way to the grocery store. Could the fact that the car never went out on the road periodically for several miles be a contributor to the o/d going out? What are the solutions? Otherwise the car is fine.

The "Race" by tagman on Wed Oct 28 09:06:59 PDT 2009

I've been following this story recently, and thought I'd make sure you gentlemen are aware of tomorrow's (Oct. 29) race whereby General Motors Companys Vice Chairman Bob Lutz will be racing a Cadillac CTS-V at the Monticello Motor Club against those have have accepted his challenge. Of course, there was a screening process in place, but it all appears to be very legitimate at this point. I think this will be interesting, because the Caddy truly does have credible specs... 6.2L supercharged V8 (LSA) that produces 556-hp with a peak torque of 551 lb-ft. 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. Top speed of 195 mph (6-speed manual, 171 mph with 6-speed A/T.) To my surprise... just today, it seems Jaguar has changed their mind and will pull their XFR out of the race... Reason? Apparently, Jaguar said that the XFR lacks better brake cooling and probably couldnt lap the Monticello without endangering the driver. Shame on you, Jaguar... you are no Leaper, just a pussycat. Tomorrow is the day. Any predictions on the results? (Brief off-topic note: I believe this is now the market "correction" I was talking about. I personally went back in a little too early, but nonetheless, think about being ready to buy at/near the lows.) TM

Nice. No one will beat the CTS-V at that track (They are the official track car of Monticello). The track is VERY technical and unless you are intimately familiar with it, you aren't going to beat a trained driver on it. My V would never beat the new V on it. A E63AMG or AMG Black might take em out. Maybe an M3 Sedan, perhaps an M5 Sedan. An RS6 or RS4 also may have a shot. Depending on how they configure the track, they'll probably do a lot of long straights followed by the off-camber turns that exist there. The long straights will allow the Vs to use the 563hp and the 6pot/15" fronts 4pot/14" rears to hunker down to beat up the other cars. I can't wait til I can replace my 05 with an 09 used V. :) -mike
