Hi all, I got the following assurance for a price (Tech/ENT MDX for $44,295 (including dest charge) + TTL) from 3 dealers in the NJ/NY/CT area. I'll mention two of them, b/c the third one (in NJ) I had limited discussions with and told me right off they did not have the color I wanted. The other two-- Acura Milford CT and Paragon in Queens, NY. I did most of my work on the internet/email. I got to the price I wanted and was told to "come on down." But the only thing was, each of the three did a stutter-step when I went to get the color and interior color that I wanted, despite letting them know early on. When I got there (The Queens, NY dealer that is...), they said how does a white one sound? How about this grey on with a scratch on it hood (we can buff that out). No thanks. I am truly sorry I took the trip down to Queens. Back in CT, where I live, and even worse experience with the Milford dealership. The internet sales manager at Milford could not even answer basic questions directly. It took him three tries at answering the question "do you have the car in this color?" Then he backtracked on an assurance that he could meet the price above (this assurance was made by one of his staff). When I called him on it he never answered the simple question: "Can you meet or beat the price?" He said he would have to escalate after I gave him a CC number, really?... Come by, blah, blah, blah. Sorry, no deal I thought. Let me explain my simple alternative to this dirty back and forth game they were playing (It's not a great one if you are dead set on geeting the MDX -which is a great car by the way, but I was caught between the MDX and the X5, which I did a lot of groundwork on as far as price). On the way home from Queens, back to CT, I picked up the cell phone and bought an BMW X5. Good price for the car (crossing my fingers on the reliability), but it is gorgeous and a 2012. 6K more, but what the heck. Thank you aweful Acura dealerships and sales people for making me see what my future would hold if I was forced to interact with your dealership going forward (service).
Put your plug for the dealership here: http://www.edmunds.com/dealerships/Connecticut/Milford/KeyHyundaiofMilford/ I'm sure other shoppers would like to hear about your experience.
I just leased the Turbo when my BMW 5 series xi was coming to a close. The ONLY thing I miss is the heated steering wheel. In ALL other areas this car matches the BMW - I can't believe it. Interior roominess, head room, amenities, legroom, interior AND exterior design, nav system, auto/manual option, TURBO RESPONSE. For me it came down to the VW CC and the Sonata Turbo. The MAJOR point for me was "...but it's a Hyundai...". Well - no effing more - from now on I'll have to say BECAUSE it's a Hyundai. Personal plug for the folks at KEY Hyundai in Milford CT. NOT PRESSURE. No need. The freaking car sells itself....
They just announced another Ford dealer closing in Cincinnati... out east on Hwy 32... kyfdx....I'm thinking that's Castrucci? If it's them, they were always a little bit dicey in the way they did business, in my estimation. If it's Williams (LORMAR?), out in Milford, I like them a lot. Pretty far out for me because that's a pretty far ways on 275 for me. I was out to both those dealerships a few months ago when I was shopping. I test drove the new SHO at both places. Castrucci is typical of "old school" car sales. Sales guys sticking to a script.....not listening.....trying to move you to something you didn't ask for (since they don't have it in stock). LORMAR was the opposite...sales guys were knowledgable....easy to deal with.....actually offered to let me take the SHO home for the weekend. Different location, but went to another Ford dealership at the time who wanted me to give them a deposit to test drive a SHO. That encounter lasted less than 5 minutes...me leaving as the sales person came out to the parking lot after me. He said that they'd "make an exception for me", requiring a deposit for the test drive. "Ahhhh....thanks, but no thanks!"
I ended up taking my case to Corporate because my dealer (Courtney Honda, Milford CT) did nothing for me. The Regional Parts and Service Manager came out, took a look at it, took photos and told me that Honda would be in touch. About 2 weeks later I got the call from Corporate telling me they won't do anything for me either, not a dime. I think this is a case of if your dealer doesn't offer to help out on it, then you're SOL. I ended up jury-rigging a solution - my brother-in-law works for a major defense contractor, and he got some industrial-grade velcro for me to try. So far it's working great. This will be my last Honda though, I've had it with them.
